Samsung Galaxy Flip And Galaxy Fold Comparison – Here’s What’s New

Samsung’s first-generation Galaxy Fold was the most troubled phone throughout 2019. The new form factor brought its challenges on the table, with primary concerns evolving around the durability of the folding phone. The folding phone even raised more eyebrows after the retail price was revealed.

However, last year, Samsung tipped on a new folding device to succeed the Galaxy Fold. The device was recently announced as the Galaxy Z Flip, changing the naming, which depicts a new beginning for the company’s future in the folding smartphones category.

Here is the difference between the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold.

Design

Significant changes include the new clamshell design that looks similar to the Motorola Razr in some way. The preceding folding phone had a book-like design. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has a hide-away hinge, which allows you to adjust the folding angle, which was not possible in the original Fold.

The Galaxy Fold had two displays – a 7.3-inch main screen and a 4.6-inch secondary display – while the Z Flip favors more hand one usage with a 6.7-inch primary display and a smaller 1.1-inch cover display for staying up to date with notifications.

The Galaxy Z Flip is also more light-weight and compact – perfect for carrying in your pocket – unlike the Fold, which was chunky and didn’t favor one-hand usage unless on the secondary display.

Both have Infinity Flex displays, but the newer model uses Ultra-Thin glass for the main screen instead of plastic. Because of the glass material, the Galaxy Z Flip is more durable than its predecessor.

Samsung said the device could fold up to 200,000 times without any issues. Last year CNET’s folding test revealed that the Galaxy Fold performed 120,000 folds before it ran into problems.

Durability

Generally, the design change makes the Galaxy Z Flip more durable. It has the hide-way hinge with Samsung’s proprietary “sweeper” technology to repel dust and dirt from getting inside.
