Microsoft releases Preview version of Office apps for Windows 10

windows-10-desktopMicrosoft has released the preview versions of its Office applications for the recently launched Windows 10. The Office applications have been designed to accept touch inputs and will work across phones and tablets.

”These “universal” Office apps are optimized for touch and mobile use and are a great way to take your work on the go, no keyboard or mouse required.” The company said in a Blog Post.

Two weeks ago, Microsoft had shared their plans to introduce new universal Office apps for Windows 10 which would include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote and this move to The move to harmonize its operating system platform according to TechCrunch will allow it to offer a larger user base to developers, which might make creating apps for its software more enticing.

If you’re already on the Windows 10 Technical Preview, Microsoft is asking you to just search for Office apps in the Windows Store Beta (the grey tile in the Start menu or on the taskbar).

These new Office apps will be pre-installed for free on phones and small tablets running Windows 10, and available to download from the Windows Store for other devices.

The Office universal apps, the company says will be available with the Windows 10 Technical Preview in the coming weeks and general availability is on track for later this year..
