Kenyan startup Kyosk Digital has launched in Uganda

Kyosk Digital Services aims to address some of the challenges that vendors of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) go through in sourcing products and restocking their outlets.

The company says its mission is “to build a tech-led platform that connects informal retailers who retail in kiosks and other similar retail outlets directly to fast-moving consumer goods companies (FMCGs). The film does this ”by communicating demand from retail outlets to the FMCGs and their distributors and managing the delivery of the goods to the kiosks.”

That digital platform recognizes that vendors who operate corner shops and other similar facilities across the continent spend a substantial amount of resources ensuring that there are well stocked all year round.

The Kenyan company founded by Raphael Afaedor is now expanding its services to Uganda in a bid to give retailers an easier time accessing merchandise.

Hazel Twsigye, Kyosk, Uganda Country Manager told the media that “Kyosk is here to positively revolutionize the distribution chain by solving some of the issues in the traditional retailers or “dukas.”

The startup is working towards giving retailers solutions that include a wide selection of manufacturers to choose from, real-time data visibility and same-day delivery.

“By leveraging technology, we create a direct link between kiosk-type retail outlets, and their distributors, communicating demand to the fast-moving consumer goods and their distributors in real-time, while also organizing the delivery of the ordered products,” he added.

Twsigye emphasizes that the platform is built for informal retailers, but has several value-added services that go beyond the distribution challenge.

“Kyosk is revolutionizing the digital economy where few have dared to play by using sophisticated geo-mapping which can tag every retail shop and aggregate them into zones or segments”, Twesigye expounded.
