Elon Musk Finally Closes Twitter Deal, Immediately fires CEO Parag Agrawal

Elon Musk knows how to keep the world haggling, doubting and guessing his moves. No one is ever so sure certain about anything from him, even when what he says is in black and white. The Twitter deal and the many months of bitter exchange and uncertainties are just one example of his ability to force things to work on his own terms and time.

The billionaire entrepreneur has finally closed the $44 billion acquisition of the social media platform. As soon as the deal was done, Musk fired top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, Head of Legal, Policy and Trust Vijaya Gadde and General Counsel Sean Edgett. This wasn’t a surprise action. It was all along expected, given the many fallouts some of these Twitter leads have had with him.

There are several unknowns as Twitter now becomes a private entity. Musk loves a chaotic way of doing things and thrives through the storm. He landed on Twitter in his element, through a tweet that said, “the bird is freed.”

Musk promises that the platform will encourage “free speech,” yet he hasn’t clarified what free speech would exactly entail. There are mixed feelings about the possibility of former US President Donald Trump coming back on Twitter, something that Elon Musk has promised to personally fulfil.

Twitter has its fair share of challenges, including low revenues and a dilapidating reputation. However, it maintains significant prominence and credibility as a source of information, particularly by reputable organizations and people. In July, the company laid off, 30% of its employees.

“In reality, Twitter is a struggling yet incredibly prominent platform, one where heads of state and hardcore porn regularly intermix and one that, after a long phase of stagnation, had finally begun to introduce improvements to its products and policies.” Technology magazine TechCrunch writes.

Musk is likely to turn around Twitter, but mainly in a direction that favours him, fulfils his desires and suits his interests. The serial entrepreneur is also expected to instil his own executives at the helm of the social media platform to push his agenda. How the platform turns out in the next couple of years is a matter everyone anticipates with bated breath.
