TechTrends Media expands into Rwanda and Uganda, launches TechTrends.rw and TechTrends.ug
TechTrends Media, the Nairobi-based digital media group behind TechTrends Kenya, EcoNews and GreenShift Magazine, has announced its expansion into Rwanda and Uganda with the launch of two new country-specific platforms, TechTrends Rwanda (techtrends.rw) and TechTrends Uganda (techtrends.ug).
The move extends TechTrends Media’s coverage of fintech, telecoms, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, e-mobility and digital policy beyond Kenya’s borders, positioning the group as a connected media network spanning three of East Africa’s most active technology markets. Founded in 2014, TechTrends Media has built its reputation on covering the region’s digital economy through news, podcasts and live events, including The TechTrends Podcast, The Green Shift Podcast, The Tech Connect Podcast, and flagship gatherings such as the GreenShift Forum and TechTrends AI Forum.
“Rwanda and Uganda are two of the most dynamic technology ecosystems on the continent, and it was only a matter of time before TechTrends extended its coverage to include them,” said Nixon Kanali, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of TechTrends Media. “This expansion allows us to tell the full East African technology story, not just Kenya’s chapter of it, and gives our partners a single platform to reach audiences across all three markets.”
TechTrends Rwanda will focus on the country’s digital government initiatives, its growing innovation ecosystem centred on Kigali, and its positioning within continental technology policy frameworks such as the Smart Africa Alliance. TechTrends Uganda will prioritise coverage of the country’s mobile money and fintech sector, agritech innovation, and telecommunications infrastructure development.
Both platforms will operate as part of a unified TechTrends Media network, sharing editorial standards and brand identity with TechTrends Kenya while building locally-driven reporting through in-country correspondents. The company said the expansion also creates a new regional advertising and sponsorship offering, allowing brands operating across East Africa to reach audiences in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda through a single media partnership.
The launch follows a decade of growth for TechTrends Media, which has received recognition from the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) Awards in 2019 and 2025, and whose editorial team contributes to regional and continental outlets including ITWeb Africa and Africa Business Communities.
TechTrends Media said further details on regional content, correspondents and partnership opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks.
