NEC Africa has appointed Phillip Nganga as Regional Manager for East Africa, giving him overall responsibility for the performance and growth of the business across the region.
Nganga has close to 15 years of experience with NEC, having joined the company in May 2012. The appointment is part of NEC Africa’s push to develop local leadership and position its African operations for its next phase of growth.
“East Africa has tremendous potential, and we believe the time is right to take the business to the next level,” said Nganga. He said his focus will be on expanding the customer base, strengthening partnerships and broadening the company’s portfolio of solutions, while maintaining the service standards NEC is known for.
Nganga said a central part of his approach will be understanding customers’ businesses and future plans before recommending solutions. He added that NEC Africa is also positioning itself to help customers and partners understand and prepare for emerging technologies.
The East African market is seeing sustained investment in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise technology and energy, driven by governments, financial institutions, telecommunications firms and, increasingly, manufacturing, oil and gas companies.
Nganga identified Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda as markets offering significant opportunities for deeper engagement. He said expanding NEC Africa’s local team and partner network across the region will be a priority.
“Visibility is particularly important for us,” he said. “We want to strengthen our presence across East Africa and ensure that customers experience not only the quality of our solutions, but the long-term support and engagement that has always been part of the NEC relationship.”
Gary Munro, NEC Africa VP African Operations, said the appointment forms part of the company’s strategy to accelerate growth in East Africa. “Phillip has grown substantially during his time with NEC, and this appointment recognises the contribution he has already made while giving him the opportunity to take the next step in his management journey,” said Munro. “We believe strongly in local knowledge and local leadership. Rather than parachuting people into management roles, we want to develop our own people and build an African business led by Africans.”
The appointment follows William Hunter’s move into a chief operating officer role, where his technical and project management background is expected to strengthen NEC Africa’s delivery capabilities as the company prepares for a major project in East Africa.
Nganga said his ambition is for NEC Africa to become the partner of choice in the eastern part of the continent, combining the strength of the NEC brand with deeper local engagement and a broader portfolio of solutions.
