Uganda and Kenya are set to deepen cooperation in tourism, technology and regional mobility as stakeholders prepare for the 5th Uganda–Kenya Coast Tourism and Innovation Summit in Mombasa on October 26–27, 2026.
The two-day meeting will be held at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa under the theme “Unlocking Tourism Opportunities: Resolving Policy Bottlenecks through Technology, Youth and Seamless Mobility across East Africa.”
It is expected to bring together representatives from government, tourism, technology, investment and the private sector to identify practical opportunities for cross-border collaboration and address policy challenges affecting tourism and business movement between the two countries.
The summit is being convened by the Consulate General of Uganda in Mombasa in partnership with tourism stakeholders from Uganda and the Kenya Coast.

Amb. Herbert Kiguli, Consul General of the Republic of Uganda in Mombasa, said the initiative is intended to move cooperation beyond discussions towards practical partnerships, with technology and youth innovation playing a central role.
“This Summit reflects the strength of the partnership Uganda has built with our friends on the Kenya Coast over the past five years,” said Amb. Kiguli. “As we mark ten years of the Consulate’s presence in Mombasa, we are moving beyond dialogue to concrete, action-oriented cooperation, particularly in harnessing technology and youth innovation to unlock the full potential of tourism between our two countries.”
A key component of the 2026 summit will be the use of technology to support tourism growth and improve experiences for visitors travelling along the Uganda–Kenya Coast corridor. The programme will include showcases of digital solutions developed to support tourism, alongside discussions on smart destinations, tourism investment and connectivity.
Mombasa County is expected to use the summit to highlight opportunities for technology-enabled tourism development and stronger collaboration with Uganda.
“Mombasa County is proud to welcome this Summit as a platform that puts our tourism offering firmly on the regional stage,” said Hon. Mohammed Osman, County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Mombasa County. “We see real value in deepening ties with Uganda, particularly in opening up smart, tech enabled and youth-driven approaches to tourism that benefit both our destinations.”
The focus on innovation follows several years of engagement between tourism stakeholders in Uganda and the Kenya Coast. Since 2022, the partnership has supported knowledge exchange, business networking and familiarisation programmes involving tourism stakeholders from both destinations. More than 450 stakeholders have participated in the associated familiarisation programme since its establishment.
Regional movement of people, workers and services will also feature prominently during the summit, with participants expected to examine challenges affecting tourism and business travel within East Africa.
Discussions will specifically consider the implementation of Article 104 of the East African Community Treaty, which provides for the progressive removal of restrictions on the movement of persons, labour and services among EAC partner states. Organisers say the discussions will focus on practical challenges and potential measures that can support easier movement within the regional framework.
The summit will combine policy discussions, technology demonstrations and business-to-business engagements, with organisers targeting concrete partnerships and institutional commitments. The meeting is expected to conclude with a Summit Communiqué outlining agreed priorities and timelines for implementation.
The 2026 meeting marks the fifth annual collaboration between the Consulate General of Uganda in Mombasa and tourism stakeholders along the Kenya Coast. It will also coincide with the tenth anniversary of the Consulate’s active presence in Mombasa and its transition to newly owned premises.
Organisers expect the summit to strengthen tourism and economic ties between Uganda and Kenya while supporting broader East African integration through improved mobility, technology adoption, investment and private-sector cooperation.
