Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Group has recorded a 37% year-on-year increase in pre-tax profit to KSh9.8 billion for the six months ended June 2026, supported by higher revenues, loan growth and an expanding customer base across East Africa.
The regional banking group, which operates in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, reported a 21% increase in total revenue during the period. Net interest income rose 26%, while non-interest income increased by 7%.
Customer deposits rose 11% to KSh534 billion, while loans and advances grew 14% to KSh328 billion. The growth came as DTB’s customer base expanded by 44% over the past year to 5.9 million customers across its three markets.
The bank also reported an improvement in asset quality, with its non-performing loan ratio falling to 11.6% from 13% a year earlier, while the specific provision coverage ratio increased to 56.6% from 40.7%.
DTB attributed much of its customer growth to digital banking, with 99% of customers acquired over the past year onboarded through digital platforms. More than 86% of customer transactions were also conducted through digital channels.
Digital lending has emerged as another area of growth, with the group disbursing KSh10 billion in digital loans to retail, micro, small and medium-sized enterprise customers during the six months. The bank added that it will continue investing in automation and digital processes to improve its operational efficiency.
In Kenya, DTB Managing Director Murali Natarajan said the bank expects to open its 100th branch by Christmas, taking its regional branch network to 163. The expansion is intended to support growth in retail, SME and mid-market banking while complementing the bank’s digital channels.
DTB is also seeking to expand its lending and customer base beyond its established sectors, including trade, manufacturing, real estate, construction, tourism and transport. Agriculture, education and public sector agencies have been identified as additional areas of focus.
Group CEO Nasim Devji said the bank would continue pursuing growth through retail, SME and corporate banking, alongside digital products, targeted lending and deposit mobilization.
The latest results come as DTB continues to implement its DTB3.0 business growth strategy, with the bank positioning customer acquisition, digital banking and operational efficiency as key drivers of its medium-term expansion.
DTB said it expects to maintain the growth momentum through continued expansion of its balance sheet, customer base and profitability across East Africa.
