Tech Mahindra and Microsoft Rethink 5G Network Operations With AI

Tech Mahindra has partnered with Microsoft to introduce an AI-powered Network Digital Twin solution designed to help telecommunications companies modernize network management, improve service reliability, and accelerate the commercialization of advanced 5G services.

The new platform combines Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Digital Twins to create a unified, real-time data environment that enables telecom operators to monitor, simulate, and optimize network performance using artificial intelligence. The solution is targeted at medium and large communications service providers managing complex, multi-vendor network infrastructure.

According to both companies, the platform moves beyond conventional network monitoring by integrating AI-driven analytics, predictive modeling, and automation into day-to-day operations. It also incorporates Microsoft Foundry, Fabric IQ, and agentic AI capabilities, allowing operators to automate decision-making and streamline network orchestration.

However, the collaboration comes as telecom operators face mounting pressure to support increasingly complex digital services while keeping operational costs under control. As 5G adoption expands, service providers are seeking technologies that can improve network visibility, reduce manual intervention, and generate new revenue streams from enterprise-focused services.

The companies said the solution is designed to support service-level agreement (SLA)-based offerings, including network slicing and edge computing, while strengthening service assurance through predictive risk analysis. By leveraging real-time network telemetry and cloud-scale digital twin technology, operators can identify potential issues before they affect customers and optimize network resources more efficiently.

Amol Phadke, Chief Transformation Officer, Tech Mahindra, said telecom operators are under growing pressure to manage increasingly sophisticated networks while unlocking greater value from their infrastructure.

He noted that many providers continue to rely on reactive operational models that increase costs and limit visibility into network performance. He also added that the integration of digital twin technology, unified data intelligence, and agentic AI, is intended to help operators transition toward autonomous network operations, improve service assurance, and create new opportunities to monetize advanced 5G capabilities.

The platform also enables telecom providers to replace traditional network simulation methods with cloud-based digital twins capable of combining live network telemetry, semantic intelligence, and AI-powered automation. This allows operators to make data-driven decisions throughout the network lifecycle, optimize infrastructure investments, improve asset utilization, and strengthen governance while reducing operational overheads.

Alessandra Antonelli, Senior Global Director, Strategy, Microsoft, said the collaboration combines Microsoft’s cloud and AI technologies with Tech Mahindra’s telecommunications expertise to deliver real-time intelligence across complex network environments.

According to Antonelli, the solution enables operators to move beyond passive monitoring by using AI to reason, simulate, and take actions across live network environments, improving operational efficiency and responsiveness.

Beyond the technology itself, the partnership is expected to deepen collaboration between Tech Mahindra and Microsoft through joint go-to-market initiatives and continued innovation in AI-powered telecom solutions. Customers are expected to benefit from faster deployment of scalable technologies, enhanced operational efficiency, improved service quality, and greater opportunities to create business value as the telecommunications industry continues its transition toward autonomous and AI-driven networks.
