NTT DATA and Cursor Push AI Coding Further Into Enterprise Development

The global technology services firm is rolling out AI coding agents across its engineering teams as enterprises seek faster application modernization with stronger governance.

NTT DATA has entered into a strategic partnership with AI coding platform Cursor, a move aimed at accelerating enterprise software modernization by integrating AI-powered coding agents into its global engineering operations.

The partnership will see NTT DATA deploy Cursor’s enterprise platform across key engineering teams to streamline software development, improve code modernization, and strengthen governance for AI-assisted engineering. The initiative forms part of the company’s broader strategy to evolve into an AI-native technology services provider while helping enterprises modernize legacy applications and speed up digital transformation.

Furthermore, by embedding AI agents directly into software engineering workflows, NTT DATA expects to enhance developer productivity, improve consistency across delivery teams, and reduce the time required to design, build, and modernize enterprise applications. The company said the approach also supports enterprise-grade governance through centralized administration, privacy controls, audit capabilities, and policy enforcement.

“Enterprise modernization has evolved beyond cloud migration to fundamentally changing how software is created and managed with AI,” said Abhijit Dubey, CEO and Chief AI Officer of NTT DATA, Inc. “By integrating AI into our engineering and delivery operations, we can accelerate modernization, improve quality at scale, and deliver greater business value while ensuring governance and measurable outcomes.”

Cursor’s platform enables developers to write, review, refactor, and modernize code using AI agents that understand the broader codebase context across multiple AI models. For enterprise customers, the platform includes features such as Single Sign-On (SSO), organization-wide privacy controls, granular AI agent permissions, and centralized management designed to meet corporate security and compliance requirements.

According to NTT DATA, these capabilities will support clients undertaking large-scale cloud migrations, legacy application modernization, and enterprise AI initiatives by aligning software delivery with broader organizational AI strategies.

Jordan Topoleski, Chief Operating Officer at Cursor, said the partnership demonstrates how AI is reshaping enterprise software development.

“NTT DATA is embedding AI into the heart of engineering for complex enterprise systems. Combining Cursor’s AI agents with enterprise governance enables software to be developed and delivered more efficiently at global scale, and we’re excited to support that transformation,” he said.

However, NTT DATA has begun rolling out Cursor Enterprise to selected engineering teams, with plans to expand deployment globally as adoption grows. The company also intends to establish a dedicated Cursor Center of Excellence to develop best practices, drive adoption across business units, and support AI-powered software engineering across industries.

The partnership reflects a growing trend among global technology service providers to incorporate AI-native development tools into enterprise software delivery, as organizations seek faster application modernization, improved developer efficiency, and stronger governance for AI-enabled workflows.
