Pauline Namwakira Becomes Second Kenyan to Receive AWS Golden Jacket

Kenya has added another name to the exclusive global list of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Golden Jacket recipients, with cloud educator and technology mentor Pauline Namwakira becoming only the second Kenyan to achieve the distinction.

The 23-year-old AWS Authorized Instructor joined a select group of cloud professionals worldwide who have successfully completed all active AWS certifications, a feat widely regarded as one of the highest accomplishments within the AWS certification ecosystem.

Namwakira’s achievement comes a year after technology entrepreneur Timothy Munyao, Founder and CEO of Shinrai Technologies, became Kenya’s first AWS Golden Jacket holder. Their recognition highlights the growing strength of Kenya’s cloud computing talent and the country’s rising profile in the global technology industry.

Additionally, the AWS Golden Jacket is awarded to professionals who earn the full suite of AWS certifications across foundational, associate, professional, and specialty levels. The certifications cover key cloud disciplines including architecture, security, networking, machine learning, data analytics, and DevOps.

For Namwakira, the recognition marked the culmination of a five-year journey that began in 2021 through the AWS re/Start programme under the AWS Ajira Digital Program while she was studying telecommunications engineering at Kabarak University.

What started with an AWS Cloud Practitioner certification eventually grew into a pursuit that saw her earn 13 AWS certifications.

“I received the email on the night of June 1 and saw it the next morning,” Namwakira said. “Holding the Golden Jacket was a reminder of every certification exam, every challenge and every moment of doubt along the way.”

Today, Namwakira serves as an AWS Authorized Instructor, delivering official AWS training programmes and helping professionals across East Africa develop cloud computing skills.

Beyond her technical achievements, she has built a reputation as a mentor and advocate for digital skills development. Through training initiatives and community engagement, she has supported aspiring cloud engineers, solutions architects and DevOps professionals seeking opportunities in the rapidly expanding digital economy.

Furthermore, her mentorship efforts have particularly focused on women, refugees, persons with disabilities, career changers and young people looking to enter the technology sector.

Namwakira believes the recognition reflects broader progress within Kenya’s technology ecosystem.

“Having two Golden Jacket recipients from Kenya demonstrates that local professionals can compete at the highest global standards,” she said. “The talent, ambition and technical capability exist right here in Kenya.”

Munyao, whose own Golden Jacket recognition helped raise Kenya’s visibility within the AWS community, described Namwakira’s achievement as an important milestone for the country’s cloud sector.

According to him, earning the Golden Jacket validated his expertise, created new business opportunities and strengthened confidence among clients and partners.

He noted that Namwakira’s accomplishment demonstrates the growing maturity of Kenya’s cloud ecosystem and the increasing number of professionals capable of delivering world-class digital solutions.

Looking ahead, Namwakira plans to expand her work in cloud education, artificial intelligence and machine learning while increasing access to cloud skills training across Africa.

She is also exploring the establishment of a cloud training and consulting practice aimed at helping organizations and individuals build practical, industry-ready cloud capabilities.

“The Golden Jacket is a milestone, not the finish line,” she said. “I hope it inspires many more professionals across Kenya and Africa to pursue cloud certifications and advanced technology careers.”
