Nigeria’s Bumpa Launches in Kenya, Offering Digital Tools for MSME

Bumpa, a Nigerian business management platform for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), has officially entered the Kenyan market.

The platform, accessible via mobile app and web, offers a suite of tools that help entrepreneurs automate and scale their operations. Through this expansion, Kenyan merchants can now record both online and offline sales, create responsive online storefronts, engage customers, and accept payments seamlessly via M-Pesa.

According to Bumpa Co-founder and CEO Kelvin Umechukwu, the company sees Kenya as a strategic gateway into the broader East African region as it expands its operations.

“We are extremely excited to be launching in the Kenyan market. Kenya is a key market and a launchpad for us into East Africa. We are looking forward to serving Kenyan businesses by enabling them to manage their operations better, which ultimately leads to growth,” said Bumpa Co-founder and CEO, Kelvin Umechukwu.

A 2024 study published in the Indo American Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Review showed that SMEs in emerging markets that adopt integrated digital tools can achieve revenue growth of up to 30%. The study also noted that businesses using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems record a 15–30% increase in sales and a 25–40% improvement in customer retention.

“Business management software such as ours has been shown to help businesses grow because they allow one to manage a business smarter, access important business analytics, and free up an entrepreneur from administrative tasks, allowing them to focus on other areas of the business. That is at the heart of what we want to achieve in Kenya, to help small businesses grow,” said Bumpa co-founder and CEO Kelvin Umechukwu.

Bumpa, dubbed the “King of Social Commerce” in Nigeria, is targeting Kenyan businesses that rely on social media to drive sales, aiming to streamline how they manage and grow their operations. Social commerce refers to the direct sale of goods and services through social media platforms.

“Social and conversational commerce is a common way of doing business in Kenya and most of Africa, and we are integrating our platform with Meta to make it easier for businesses that sell on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to receive messages from those platforms directly on Bumpa. This feature and more will be available soon,” said Bumpa Co-Founder and CEO Kelvin Umechukwu.

The integration with Meta will allow businesses to centralize Instagram and Facebook communications, share product catalogues, send invoices and request payments directly through Bumpa.

According to Datareportal, a global data insights company, Kenya counts over 33 million Meta users, with more than 60% participating in social commerce activities such as product research, purchasing and selling.

Additionally, a separate CustomersAI report indicates that 85% of consumers want to communicate with brands via messaging, while 75% are more inclined to buy when they receive responses through chat. It also finds that customers who interact with businesses via messaging deliver over 60% higher Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) than those who do not.
