WildMango Becomes OpenAI’s First SMB Partner in Africa

Nairobi-based technology company WildMango has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI, making it one of the American AI giant’s first small and medium business (SMB) partners on the African continent.

The deal, announced on Tuesday, will see WildMango support the distribution, integration, and localisation of OpenAI’s products and services across Africa.

Through the collaboration, WildMango will work with enterprises, startups, developers, and public institutions to deploy AI tools aimed at improving productivity, decision-making, and service delivery.

“Our partnership with OpenAI positions Africa at the forefront of the global AI transformation. We are striving to make sure Africa is not left behind,” said Serah Katusya, Co-Founder of WildMango. “We are not just expanding access; our ambition is to shape how AI is deployed and used in African contexts. This is about ensuring that the continent participates fully in the future, underpinned by Artificial Intelligence.”

The partnership will focus on four areas: expanding availability of OpenAI’s products across African markets; adapting AI tools to local use cases; equipping developers, enterprises, and policymakers with training and resources; and fostering ecosystem development through collaboration with corporates, startups, and research institutions. WildMango has also committed to aligning deployments with responsible AI principles, including safety, inclusivity, and long-term societal benefit.

“Expanding our capabilities in Africa is important to OpenAI,” said Ben Tyson, Senior Partner Enablement Manager at OpenAI. “This partnership with WildMango will enable companies, startups, developers, and other institutions to leverage our world-class models and capacity to accelerate growth, efficiency, and impact.”

Tyson pointed to WildMango’s local market knowledge as central to OpenAI’s confidence in the arrangement. “Implementing new technology requires a specialised skill set and a clear understanding of both the power of technology and the way businesses operate,” he said. “WildMango’s deep understanding of the African market, paired with their commitment to impact and long-term client success, gives us confidence in this partnership. We’re excited to join forces with WildMango to engage and empower this ecosystem, and to ensure AI delivers lasting value for the continent.”

The announcement comes as demand for AI solutions across Africa grows rapidly, driven by expanding digital infrastructure, a maturing entrepreneurial ecosystem, and public-sector digitalisation initiatives.
