How to Turn Off LinkedIn’s AI Training

In recent years, there has been a widespread surge in AI popularity as companies aim to create and uphold their own AI models using user-generated content and data, often without user consent, and LinkedIn has now jumped on this bandwagon.

LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, which also owns ChatGPT developer OpenAI, rolled out new AI-assisted features without explicitly informing users that the option to train generative AI models was automatically enabled for the majority of its users, allowing the platform to analyze user-generated content without their consent.

LinkedIn users were not notified about the update in the company’s privacy policy, and the company concealed the features to modify these settings. Let us assist you in locating this menu and deselecting LinkedIn’s AI training.

How to Opt-Out of LinkedIn’s AI Training

  1. Log in to your LinkedIn account
  2. Click on your profile image in the header menu and choose Settings and Privacy from the dropdown menu under Account.
  3. Scroll to Data Privacy and click on it to show more options on the right side.
  4. Scroll to Data for Generative AI Improvement and click on it
  5. Opening this menu will let you toggle this option off. It has been turned on by default.

More Settings to Disable

Go to the Advertising data tab in the Settings menu, choose the relevant ones, and ensure they are turned off.

Many companies are repurposing user-generated content on their platforms to train generative AI models, despite inadequate opt-out models that fail to protect users’ privacy rights.

LinkedIn stated that they do not train on data from the EU, EEA, or Switzerland to train “content-generating AI models,” with the EEA including all 27 EU members, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

In countries where LinkedIn uses your data for AI training, it’s crucial to disable this toggle in your settings.
