Safaricom targets the youth with a new “S-Hook” platform

Kenya’s leading telco Safaricom has unveiled a new platform targeting the youth. Know as Safaricom Hook, also S-Hook, the engagement platform is designed to empower Kenyan youth in the areas of technology, career, and culture.

S-Hook has been launched in partnership with key partners including Power Learn Project (PLP), a Pan-African social enterprise dedicated to equipping young Africans with market-ready tech skills, Meta, and Wowzi.

Focusing on three key hooks; technology, career, and culture, the platform aims to nurture and support the aspirations of the Gen Z demographic and transform their lives by being a technology enabler, through offering access to custom-made offerings that will leverage Safaricom’s extensive mobile network.

“At Safaricom, we are keen on helping our young people to leverage the transformative power of technology. Through Safaricom Hook, we aim to provide a platform for young Kenyans seeking inspiration, opportunities, and a sense of belonging in a constantly evolving world.” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom PLC.

With S-Hook Safaricom wants to address the prevailing digital divide by providing accessible, high-quality tech education to empower young Kenyans, ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital era.

The platform also seeks to nurture local talent and build a resilient, tech-ready workforce. By imparting essential tech skills, they are investing in Kenya’s future, equipping youths with the knowledge and capabilities to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

“This strategic partnership with Safaricom marks a transformative step in our mission at Power Learn Project (PLP). The launch of the “S-Hook” signifies a resolute commitment to bridge the digital divide and empower Kenya’s youth with essential tech skills.’’ Mumbi Ndung’u, Chief of Growth and Operations at PLP, said.

Safaricom Hook seeks to enable Gen Z to maximize their online potential and enjoy a digital lifestyle by facilitating smartphone access, providing relevant value propositions such as Make Your Own Bundle, which gives users the freedom to decide how much they spend on data and voice, and availing loyalty rewards and delight offers.

Under this strategic partnership, Safaricom has committed to training 10,000 young Kenyans. The “S-Hook” platform, with PLP’s expertise, aims to match this number, further enhancing Safaricom’s commitment to Kenya’s youth. This investment in the nation’s youth is expected to have a profound impact on Kenya’s technological advancement and economic development.

This collaboration is an active step towards advancing Kenya’s technological leadership.

‘’By offering youth the opportunity to develop vital tech skills, we’re not only building their capacity but also positioning Kenya as a tech-savvy nation that will play a significant role in global technological innovation. ‘’

Eligible customers, aged 10 to 24, can join the platform via the Safaricom Hook app, or by dialing dial *555#.
