Western Digital launches Xbox expandable storage cards

Western Digital has announced the launch of its own expansion cards for Xbox Series S / X consoles to take on Seagate.

The cards C50 Expansion Card for Xbox will be available in two storage capacities priced at $79.99 for the 512 GB model and $149.99 for the 1 TB version.

Previously, Xbox owners had to purchase Seagate’s official expansion cards to expand their storage. Western Digital is now offering much-needed competition.

Western Digital says the new card gives gamers more capacity so they can keep more of today’s top titles installed and ready to go.  The card leverages the Xbox Velocity Architecture, allowing it to deliver incredible performance gamers have come to expect from the Xbox Series X|S.

“Xbox consoles have been a much-beloved gaming staple in households around the globe for decades,” said Susan Park, vice president, global strategic partnerships at Western Digital.

“With the introduction of the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox, gamers can continue to enjoy their favourite games with more flexibility so they can focus on accomplishing their next mission or defeating their final boss,”  Susan added.

Like what we have seen with a number of other Western Digital other products, the WD Black C50 Expansion Card features an industrial aesthetic and a plug-and-play design without fussing with screws or compatibility concerns.

All you need to do is simply insert the card into the expansion slot on the Xbox Series X|S console, and you’re good to go. Any games installed on it will benefit from the same Xbox Velocity technology that allows for Quick Resume and lightning-quick loading times, creating a seamless method for expanding your game library.

They have been designed to expand upon the Xbox Series X|S internal storage, giving gamers the ability to keep even more of their favourite titles at the ready without having to transfer to and from the console.

Enabling gamers to enjoy the breadth of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service, a purchase of the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox will also include a 1-month trial of the Game Pass Ultimate service.
