Safaricom has rolled out a new USSD for accessing M-Pesa services. By dialing *334#, M-Pesa customers will now be able all M-PESA services without the SIM toolkit hassle.
The new USSD targets to bring convenience to M-Pesa users without smartphones by delivering all M-Pesa services in “a single, easy to use menu with more flexibility.” But anyone can use the M-PESA via the USSD method.
“We have embarked on a strategy to simplify our range of products and services for our customers and to provide them with an even better experience,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.
“M-PESA on *334# is our first solution as part of the ongoing strategy and it refines how our customers interact with the service.”
Safaricom is also making it M-PESA reversals a thing of the past. When using the *334# menu, a customer will first have to confirm the recipient’s name before the transaction can be completed.
“Customers now have the opportunity to truly confirm the details of a transaction before it can progress making reversals a thing of the past,” he added.
The menu includes “Send Money,” “Loans and Savings,” and “Lipa Na M-PESA,” among other options. You can also use the USSD code to access M-PESA Global, the gateway to sending cash abroad via the platform.
Safaricom will also use the new menu for easier deployment of additional M-PESA features.
