Safaricom Becomes Amazon Web Services Reseller In Kenya and EA

Safaricom has today announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services, which will see the telco resell AWS services in Kenya and throughout East Africa. The deal, according to the telco, will help accelerate cloud adoption in Kenya.

Safaricom says the deal is designed to help accelerate the telco’s “internal IT transformation, lower costs and provide it with a blueprint and skilled resources to assist customers with their journey to the cloud.”

“We chose to partner with AWS because it offers customers the broadest and deepest cloud platform, overall commitment to security excellence, and a strong culture of customer obsession,” said Michael Joseph, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Safaricom.

“This agreement will allow us to accelerate our efforts to enable digital transformation in Kenya,” he added.

On top of reselling AWS services, the telco also announced inclusion as an Advanced Consulting Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN), a partner program for technology and consulting businesses that leverage AWS “to build solutions and services for customers.”

The telco’s attainment of Advanced Consulting Partner status means they will be offering support to customers by helping them in both the implementation and management of an AWS cloud deployment.

The announcement makes Safaricom one of the first APN members across East Africa. The new partnership deal has reportedly sparked interest among potential customers, including enterprises, startups, and even government agencies, the telco said in a statement.
