After the panned Sept 19th launch date, Huawei finally announced its year’s second flagship devices in the Mate Series. This year’s series is the named Mate 30 with several devices in the series. In the recently announced Mate 30 Series, Huawei launched a total of three devices.

These include; Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 Pro 5G and Mate 30 RS (Porsche Edition). Huawei Mate 30 R.S Edition is the top of the line with a unique design that sets it apart from its siblings and also packs high-end specs which explains much about the pricing.

Huawei Mate 30 series is also 5G ready but since the next-generation of wireless technology is not yet available in the country, 5G phones is still not a thing.

One surprise that happened is that Huawei did not announce the low-end Mate 30 Lite device as usual for Huawei Mate and P flagship series, but that should be emerging online anytime soon.

Huawei Mate 30

Huawei Mate 30 packs a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ 2340 x 1080 resolution. And as the norm for top-tier devices, Mate 30 has support for HDR 10. Huawei’s in-house Kirin 990 Octa-core Processor powers the device which is paired with 8GB of RAM.

For your file storage, Mate 30 comes equipped with 128GB of internal storage. Plus, you can also bump the storage a few notches up via microSD card up to 256GB.

Mate 30 Pro comes with a 6.53-inch AMOLED display with 1176 x 2400 pixels resolution with HDR 10 support. The screen runs edge-to-edge, which was termed as “Horizon Display” that leaves no space for physical buttons. Instead, Mate 30 Pro relies on virtual buttons.

Camera-wise, the Mate 30 Pro takes it few notches higher. You get a quadruple-camera setup on the rear composed of a 40 MP ( Cine Camera, f/1.8 aperture) + 40 MP (SuperSensing Camera, f/1.6 aperture, OIS) + 8 MP (Telephoto Camera, f/2.4 aperture,
OIS)+3D Depth Sensing Camera.

For selfies, Mate 30 Pro relies on a 32MP sensor. Moving to the internals, you still get Huawei’s latest Kirin 990SoC aided with 12GB of RAM. The internal memory is variant – either 128GB or 256GB, but the battery capacity is rated at 4,500 mAh with fast charge support.

For this, Mate 30 Pro will set you back by €1,100 for the base model (approx. Ksh 125,000).

Huawei Mate 30 Porsche Design

The Porsche Edition is the limited edition in the Mate 30 series with up to 12GB of RAM paired with 512GB of internal storage. Huawei’s Kirin 990 Octa-Core SoC also powers the Porsche Edition.

From the naming you can tell, this device is a design gimmick the Porsche style but, in a smartphone. Similarly, prices come Porsche sized but in a smartphone.
