Tecno Camon 16 Premier Camera Review

Tecno has always put so much emphasis on the camera for all its devices in the Camon Series, the Camon 16 Premier is no different.

Tecno officially unveiled the Camon 16 Premier two weeks ago, a phone the company says will provide users an unprecedented clear photography experience.

TECNO Camon 16 Premier has a total of four cameras at the back. You get Sony’s IMX686 64-megapixel primary lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 5-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. This rear camera array includes a quad-LED flash.

On the front, the phone is armed with a 48-megapixel primary shooter for selfies that is pegged with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 105-degree field of view.

‘’Each camera lens has its own mission and outstanding feature, truly living up to the users’ expectation that each picture could be a masterpiece,’’ Tecno said at the launch.

‘’With those cameras, not only can the users capture unimaginably clear selfies, but also can include more friends and beautiful views in one frame,’’ the company added.

So how really do these cameras perform?

Main Camera

As mentioned above, on the rear, the Tecno Camon 16 Premier packs a 64-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.89 aperture; a second 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.25 aperture; a third 2-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a fourth 2-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture

The images produced are excellent, pretty much what you would expect for a phone at that price. They are decent with some good amount of detail and sharpness. The colours are also good, especially with good lighting.

There are also a number of camera features and our favourite was the inclusion of TAIVOS™ technology (TECNO AI Vision Optimization Solution), an image processing and enhancement lab for the CAMON series. This feature detects various scenes, puts them all together and makes sure you have the perfect settings for that killer shot.  This works so well, especially for night shots.

Low-light images are also good with the 8 MP ultrawide lens for those wide photos.

The selfie camera also performs a good job. There’s a 48-megapixel primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a second 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

The selfies produced are quite sharp and detailed and the portrait mode produces better results.

Interestingly, the selfie camera automatically switches to a “group mode” to accommodate more people in a single shot without you having to manually make the adjustment, taking advantage of the selfie camera’s 105-degree ultra-wide-angle sensor.

Check sample shots below.

Overall, the camera performance is good and the stabilization of 960 frames of super slow-motion shooting support is amazing especially for taking videos.

There’s also the Ultra Night Video-shoot mode. Tecno Camon 16 Premier uses 2.9μm super-large pixels which can provide users with a brighter video shooting experience in dark environments and can also shoot stable 1080p videos.
