MWC 2019: HMD Global unveils the Nokia 9 PureView with 5 cameras and four other Nokia devices

HMD Global, the makers of Nokia phones, has announced five new Android smartphones, at the Mobile World Conference (MWC 2019), including the Nokia 9 PureView targeting smartphone photography enthusiasts.

The Nokia 9 PureView is actually the world’s first smartphone with a unique five camera array.  The five 12MP cameras according to HMD capture images simultaneously, with the smartphone then fusing them together.

Every picture taken with a Nokia 9 PureView is in HDR, five cameras simultaneously capture the image and fuse it together into one 12MP photo with outstanding dynamic range and depth of field. The phone also features the ability to capture images in uncompressed RAW “DNG” format and edit them directly on the phone yourself thanks to our partnership with Adobe Lightroom.

The Nokia 9 PureView runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform with dedicated ASIC. It comes with a 5.99-inch 2K OLED screen, an under-display fingerprint sensor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It runs Android 9.0 Pie and is powered by a 3320mAh battery.

The Nokia 9 PureView is priced at $699, which is roughly Ksh. 70,000.

HMD also announced the Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2.  The Nokia 4.2 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor while the Nokia 3.2 is powered by Snapdragon 429.  Both phones come in two variants: 2GB RAM/16GB ROM variant and 3GB RAM/32GB ROM variant. In terms of display, the Nokia 4.2 has a 5.71-inch TFT screen while the Nokia 3.2 has a bigger 6.26-inch TFT screen. Both phones have a screen resolution of 720×1520 pixels.

The Nokia 4.2 comes with a dual-camera setup on the rear. The primary camera uses a 13-megapixel image sensor paired with a F2.2. The secondary 2-megapixel camera is used to capture depth information. The Nokia 3.2, on the other hand, has a single rear camera, which uses a 13-megapixel image sensor.

The front camera on the Nokia 4.2 is 8-megapixel camera while  Nokia 3.2 comes with a 5-megapixel front shooter. Both phones come with Android 9 Pie and 3000mAh battery for the Nokia 4.2 and  4000 mAh battery for the Nokia 3.2.

The  Nokia 4.2 will be available to buy starting from April for a global average retail price of $169 for the 2/16 variant and $199 for the 3/32 variant while the Nokia 3.2 will be available to buy in early May for a global average retail price of $139 for the 2/16 variant and $169for the 3/32 variant.

The Nokia 1 Plus was also unveiled and comes with 1GB of RAM or 8GB/16GB of ROM, a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, a FWVGA+ IPS 18:9 display, a 2,500mAh battery, a 5MP front camera, and an 8MP rear camera. It comes in red, blue, and black.

At the lowest, we have the Nokia Nokia 210, a new addition to HMD’s market-leading feature phone family. HMD is labelling it “the most affordable internet phone yet”.  The company says it has updated and modernised the feature phone with a new UI and icons.
