Donald Trump’s Truth Social App banned from Google Play Store

After being banned from Twitter and Facebook last year, former president of the United States Donald Trump set out to create his own social media platform and named it Truth Social.

The outspoken billionaire said that his platform would be a space for “free speech,” indicating that it would break from what he termed as prohibitive regulations on other social media platforms.

“I created Truth Social… to stand up to the tyranny of big tech,” Trump said. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter yet your favourite American president has been silenced.” Trump lamented, in his perfect braggadocio fashion.

A lot of work has happened behind the scenes, with the world getting occasional updates on the progress of Truth Social from time to time.

Truth Social launched on Apple’s App Store on President’s Day, 21 February. Like many other projects that the former PORK has engaged in, controversy continues to rock the platform.

The social media platform has now been prohibited from launching on Google Play Store, making it inaccessible to millions of people around the world who use Android OS.

According to Google, Truth Social has failed to comply with several standards policies, leading to the decision to lock it out of the Play Store.

The BBC reports that Truth Social was officially notified of several violations of standard policies by Google and offered advice on how to fix the problems.

“Having effective systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for any app to go live on Google Play,” a spokesperson from Google told the BBC.

Truth Social’s CEO Devin Nunes said that it’s up to Google to decide whether the app would be availed on Play Store or not.

It will be interesting to see whether and when Truth Social corrects the problems as recommended by. The world will also be interested in seeing how the platform puts into its free speech policy.
