Huawei Kenya, in partnership with Hiperdist, KCB Bank, and Digion/Smatrace Solutions Ltd, on Tuesday hosted a Smart Classroom Workshop in Nairobi, highlighting how technology can transform education in underserved communities.
The event brought together representatives from 20 Muslim schools across Kenya to explore the Huawei Smart Classroom Solution, a digital platform designed to enhance interactivity, accessibility, and learning outcomes. Participants experienced hands-on demonstrations and discussed strategies for integrating digital learning into their institutions.
A key announcement was made by Steadfast Academy, which confirmed it will implement the Smart Classroom Solution and serve as a reference school for others considering adoption.
“At Huawei, we believe technology should be an equalizer,” said Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Director at Huawei Kenya. “Our Smart Classroom Solution is designed not just to digitize education, but to democratize it, ensuring all students, including those in underserved communities, have access to world-class learning environments.”
The initiative is supported by KCB Foundation, with Virginia Mwangi, SME Specialist at KCB, noting “This partnership reflects our shared goal of equipping schools with the tools and skills necessary to prepare students for a digital economy.”
The workshop builds on Huawei’s wider DigiSchool Connectivity Project, which has already connected 21 schools, including institutions for learners with special needs, to high-speed internet, benefiting more than 10,000 students. An evaluation of the program’s first phase showed that 98% of students felt the internet met their educational needs, while 71% reported better understanding of complex concepts.
Aligned with Kenya’s Digital Superhighway Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Huawei’s Smart Classroom initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, improve teaching quality, and create equitable access to education through technology.
