CFAO Mobility Launches The Toyota bZ4X EV in Kenya

CFAO Mobility Kenya has unveiled the Toyota bZ4X, marking the Japanese automaker’s first fully electric vehicle to enter the Kenyan market, as the country’s EV sector continues to gain momentum.
The launch positions Toyota in Kenya’s expanding electric mobility space at a time when EV registrations in the country have surpassed 35,000, driven by rising consumer interest, growing investment in charging infrastructure and a broader national push towards cleaner transport.
CFAO Mobility Kenya said the launch reflects Toyota’s broader sustainability strategy as the company seeks to expand its footprint in the electric-vehicle segment.
“The Toyota bZ4X takes a step in Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy towards carbon neutrality, delivering a vehicle that provides value well beyond zero emissions, but the all-electric car does so in style,” said Joshua Anya, CFAO Mobility Kenya’s Deputy Managing Director.
The model marks a notable milestone for the brand, which has operated in Kenya for more than six decades. CFAO said the bZ4X combines Toyota’s long-standing reputation for quality, durability and reliability with its latest electric vehicle technology.
“The bZ4X represents the next chapter in mobility. With its zero-emissions, impressive range and standard-setting safety features, this innovative SUV ensures our customers don’t have to choose between cutting-edge electric performance and trusted, durable engineering,” said Arvinder Reel, CFAO’s Managing Director, adding that the model “establishes a new benchmark for the modern electric vehicle.”
The bZ4X offers a driving range of up to 516km on a single charge and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds. It comes equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and Toyota’s X-MODE with Grip Control technology, designed to improve traction in slippery or challenging driving conditions.
The vehicle is built on Toyota’s dedicated e-TNGA electric platform, a modular architecture engineered for high body rigidity, a low centre of gravity and improved driving stability. Ground clearance ranges between 206mm and 212mm, with a wading depth of 500mm, features Toyota says make the model suited to Kenya’s varied road conditions.
The bZ4X supports 150kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. Toyota is backing the model with an eight-year or 120,000km battery warranty. The name reflects the company’s electric vision, with “bZ” standing for “Beyond Zero” and “4X” denoting its four-wheel-drive crossover design.
Design elements include Toyota’s “hammerhead” front-end styling and aerodynamic detailing to improve efficiency, while the cabin adopts what the company calls a “Family Lounge” concept focused on comfort and practicality.
The bZ4X is fitted with the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense technologies, including a pre-collision system, Lane Trace Assist and Safe Exit Assist.
CFAO Mobility Kenya said customers will have access to aftersales support through its network of 43 branches and service centres nationwide, with technicians trained specifically in electric vehicle maintenance and repair.
The launch comes against a backdrop of growing EV demand in Kenya, fuelled by rising fuel costs, increasing environmental awareness and continued investment in charging infrastructure.
