Absa and Visa unveil Kenya’s first metallic infinite card

Absa Bank Kenya has partnered with Visa to launch an exclusive Infinite card, making it the first bank in Kenya to launch a metal-designed card.

The two say this new innovation aims to redefine the banking experience for the wealthy. Combining functionality with sophistication, the exclusive card is designed to provide an upscale experience to cardholders.

Benefits include unlimited access to over 1,200 airport lounges and 900 hotels worldwide, as well as 24-hour concierge service.

In addition, the card is said to offer comprehensive travel insurance with triple coverage of $2.5 million (about Sh322.5 million) to give travellers peace of mind.

In addition, buyer protection will be enhanced, increasing the limit from $10,000 to $20,000 (about Sh1.3 million to Sh2.6 million). It also guarantees a 1.5% bonus on local and international purchases.

Speaking at the card’s launch, Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director Abdi Mohamed reiterated the bank’s commitment to developing tailored solutions for each customer segment.

“Today, more than ever, customers and businesses demand flexibility, efficiency, and personalization in how they transact. As a business, we understand that we cannot afford to have a one-fits-all approach,” he said.

“Through our partnership with Visa, the Absa Visa Infinite Card strengthens our affluent portfolio by providing exclusive spending power, enhanced protection, and superior rewards.”

In a statement, Absa noted that the metallic card differs from the plastic cards currently on the market, giving it a longer shelf life.

“The introduction of the new card is a step in achieving the Bank’s goal of becoming net zero by 2050. Furthermore, 0.05% of every on-flight ticket purchase made using the card goes toward supporting tree planting efforts,” the statement read.

Visa East Africa VP and GM, Chad Pollock noted that the card aims to exceed the expectations of its cardholders by providing unique privileges and global acceptance.

“At Visa, we are committed to innovation and excellence in providing our cardholders with unparalleled experiences. The launch of the Absa Visa Infinite Card in a metallic design is a testament to our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of our customers,” Chad said.

“This card offers exceptional benefits including global acceptance and opens doors to a world of exclusive experiences including private events and VIP access to special offers and unique opportunities.”

On her part, Absa’s Affluent Banking Director, Seema de Souza said the bank is well positioned to cater to the evolving needs of the affluent customers in Kenya.

“With our comprehensive wealth solutions and retail banking products, we are uniquely equipped to meet their personal and business financial requirements. This is complemented through our trained and dedicated relationship managers and digital solutions to make their banking experience more convenient,” she said.
