TECNO Phantom V Fold2 and V Flip2 Kenyan Launch Imminent

The two second-gen devices from TECNO will be the country's least expensive foldables, and we have details of the launch date.

TECNO is set to bring its latest foldables in the country – the Phantom V Fold2 and V Flip2. These are the company’s bookstyle and clamshell-style foldables respectively and succeed the first-gen versions launched last year.

Regarding design, the TECNO Phantom V Fold2 is thinner and lighter than the first-generation V Fold. The camera island has been revamped from a circular one to a rectangular one. It also has a vegan leather back. They also get IP54 ingress protection and Phantom V Pen which is welcome – only Samsung and Honor foldable have come with stylus support.

The V Pen charges via USB-C and has two buttons with note-taking abilities.

The rest of the features stay the same like the screens – the V Fold2 has a 6.42-inch cover display and a 7.85-inch main inner display. These are LTPO AMOLED screens with 120Hz refresh rate,1600 nits peak brightness, and 2K resolution and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The same processor as its predecessor powers the Tecno Phantom V Fold2 – Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ paired with 12GB of RAM, 9GB virtual RAM, and 512GB storage. It runs in Android 14 and HiOS 14 Fold with TECNO AI. It features AI Erase, AI Writing, AI Summaries, AI Cutout, Sketch to Image, AI Portrait Beautification, and AI Video Production. The V Fold2 also comes with Google’s Circle to Search AI feature and TECNO’s Ella AI Assistant connects with Gemini.

TECNO says the V Fold2 will get 2 major Android OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates regarding future software support.

The V Fold2 has a 50MP triple camera setup for photography – a 50MP main with OIS, a 50MP telephoto with 2X optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide. It has two 32MP selfie cameras including the inner display camera. Video recording is capped at 4K 30fps for the main cameras and selfie videos are capped at 1080p 30fps.

TECNO upgraded the battery capacity of the V Fold2 – from 5000mAh to 5750mAh and increased the charging from 45W to 70W. It also has wireless charging at 15W.

The V Fold2 goes for $1099 and will be available for around Ksh 150,000 or less. Its predecessor went for Ksh 130,000 for the base model when it launched last year.

The company also changed a few design-wise things, including a bigger cover display and higher resolution. It is a 3.64-inch AMOLED screen with 1056 by 1066 pixels and is now protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. TECNO says the cover screen will support over 2000 apps and a full keyboard for typing.

The main display is a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The camera has two 50MP primary cameras for optics – both main and ultrawide. It also has a 32MP selfie camera. The cameras shoot 4K video and 2K video for the rear cameras and selfie cameras respectively.

The V Flip2 has a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset coupled with 16GB of RAM(8GB onboard and 8GB virtual) and 256GB of onboard storage. You also get Android 14 and HiOS 14 and 2 major Android OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates. It also has the TECNO AI features mentioned above and the Gemini-powered Ella assistant.

Like the V Fold2, we get a bigger battery with a 4720mAh battery and 70W charging.

The V Flip2 goes for $699 for the base model and when it launches in the country, it could be available for under Ksh 100,000 – the first V Flip went for Ksh 95,000.
