The 2023 Asus ROG Strix G16 is an Impressive Gaming Laptop

Asus ROG Strix G16: When it comes to gaming laptops, Asus always goes all on with its Republic of Gamers (ROG) series. And if you’re a gamer, chances are you have heard of the Asus ROG Strix G16, a fine entry into the space that the company is also now making available in the Kenyan market.

Asus launched this laptop back in May this year equipped with the 13th generation Intel Core HX processors paired with Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX 4000 series graphics card up to the RTX 4070 GPU This is a high-end gaming laptop that aims to offer top-notch performance for gaming enthusiasts.

Asus says the 2023 Strix G16 is a full-fledged gaming laptop targeted at competitive gamers expecting top-of-the-line performance in a chassis that caters to all gamer’s needs.  But, what really makes this gaming laptop stand out? Let’s share a few highlights of what we like about it.

Let’s talk about the display: Any gamer will tell you how important displays are important for them to enjoy any game.   The ROG Strix G16  features a 16-inch 165 Hz IPS panel with a 1920 x 1200 resolution.

It’s available in either QHD+ or FHD+ resolution. The 16-inch QHD+ panels are available in either IPS or Mini LED variants. Refresh rate goes as high as 240Hz while response times can go as low as 3ms for the QHD+ panels. All display configurations support G-Sync in the laptop display. Dolby Vision support and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut are available for the QHD+ panel.

For the keyboard, Asus has provided a full QWERTY keyboard layout. Aus says The keyboard provides a 2.0mm travel distance which should provide a satisfying and comfortable experience. There are additional top hotkeys located on the upper left section of the keyboard deck. These keys can be customized to users’ self-defined functions. The keyboard deck also features a 10% wider 126.9 x 84mm glass trackpad. All the keys also have individual RGB backlighting.

When it comes to performance, the ROG Strix G16 features a top-of-the-line Intel Core i9-13980HX Raptor Lake processor and Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX 4070.

Intel 13th gen processors offer several upgrades over 12th gen, combined these elements expect the ROG Strix G16 to offer better gaming performance and improved efficacy. Other notable features to enhance performance include 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD.

Design-wise, I like what Asus has done with the chassis. The company has completely redesigned it and based on the photos we have seen, it looks really great with new 16” dimensions. Asus says the design takes inspiration in sports resulting in a bold, sporty and vibrant appearance. The company has used aluminum for the lid and plastic for the rest of the chassis. Depending on the design ID, the aluminum lid is adorned by one of two ROG staple “slash pattern” and a backlit logo.

Asus has also been very generous with the ports on the Asus ROG Strix G16. On the right side of the laptop you have just two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports. The left side on the other hand features one Thunderbolt 4 port, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, a GbE port, HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a power port.

It’s important to also mention that compared to the 2022 version, the 2023 Strix G 16 features a Thunderbolt 4 port and upgraded HDMI 2.1.

Along both sides of the laptop and rear, you have some large vents to exhaust heat generated by the Core i9-13980HX and GeForce RTX 4070.

When it comes to the battery, we know most gaming laptops never really have a good battery life, but the ROG Strix G16 really tries. The laptop comes with a large 90Whr battery which can be charged by either the included (up to) 330W adapter, through the conventional DC plug, or through the 100W PD charge-enabled Type-C port. The battery can be charged as fast as 50% in just 30 minutes.

For audio, the laptop features 2 speakers. Asus says the Smart Amp-equipped woofers are able to produce sounds up to 2.85X louder than non-Smart Amp-equipped ones. The 2023 Strix G 16 supports Dolby Atmos.

Something that might also excite gamers is the fact that the 2023 Asus Strix G 16 includes a free 30-day subscription to XBOX Game Pass out of the box. XBOX Game Pass offers unlimited access to over 100 high-quality PC games on Windows 10 or above.
