Some Quick Thoughts on the Tecno Spark 10

Tecno Spark 10: Tecno’s Spark series has always been my favourite since the company first introduced it back in 2017. The series was meat for price-cautious consumers who would not want to spend, so much on a smartphone and Tecno has kept that promise since.

The new Spark 10 for example costs around Ksh 19,300 and comes with some interesting specs at that price including 4GB RAM, 128GB storage,  6.6-inch Full HD+, and a 90hz refresh rate among other features.

Tecno has also refreshed the series and given the Spark 10 a very nice-looking finish.

The Tecno Spark 10 series comprises four models – Spark 10 Pro, Spark  10, Spark  10 C and Spark  10 5G.  In this article, we briefly talk about Spark 10 which we have spent a few weeks with.

Design-wise, the Spark 10 features a plastic back with a matte finish. I love the boxy design Tecno has used on this phone, similar to what it has done with the Camon 20 series. We are also getting a side-mounted fingerprint reader located on the right which also serves as the power button. The volume rockers are also located here.

The speaker grille, type-c charging port, headphone jack and microphone are all at the bottom while the left side houses the dual sim slot. The slot also includes another slot for storage expansion using a microSD card.

There is also an earpiece and a notch that houses the selfie camera a the top bezel.

The display is a 6.6″ screen sporting a 90Hz refresh rate and HD resolution. The display is actually good offering some bright colors. The addition of a high refresh rate is also a plus and really comes in handy when interacting with apps and even gaming.

The back houses a dual camera setup comprising a 50MP main camera and an additional VGA camera. The cameras are actually among the key selling points for this Tecno Spark 10. The selfie camera is 8MP and takes some really decent selfies.  Again to ensure you get some good-looking shots, the trick is to make sure you have some good lighting.

Video recording is capped at 1080p resolution, nothing to really complain about here for a KES 15,000 phone. Also, there is no dedicated night mode, but in low light, the AI camera will automatically switch to “night view” which works just fine, although not the best.

Let’s talk about the performance. The phone is powered by the Helio G37 processor, which is an entry-level “gaming” chipset. It works just fine for your normal usage of social media, checking your emails, photography and all that. I wish Tecno used a relatively faster chipset though.

Also, the Spark 10 comes with  8GB RAM. Tecno is however marketing as 16GB RAM because of the extra 8GB virtual RAM. There is also 128GB storage which is quite commendable for a phone at its price.

The phone comes with a 5000mAh battery size which supports 18W fast charging. Charging the phone from zero to 100% takes a little under an hour

Other features I find interesting on the Spark 10 are NFC support and Android 13 out of the box which is quite impressive.

The Spark 10 comes in four beautiful colours – Meta Black,  Meta Blue, Meta White and Meta Green.
