Livestreaming platform Showmax has introduced a new plan that allows customers to make big savings on data. The Max Data Saving mode will see customers use just 50 MB per hour on their iOS mobile version of the Showmax app.
Previously, Showmax had introduced the Low mode which uses up to 300 MB and the Savings mode using 100 MB of data per hour. These plans are relatively pocket-friendly, compared to the Maximum Quality option which gives the highest picture quality but consumes up to 1.4GB per hour.
The live-streaming platform has not disclosed the quality of videos that customers will enjoy with the new data plan.
“Showmax is designed for Africa: a mobile-first continent where the cost of data remains a barrier to streaming,” says Barry Dubovsky, COO, MultiChoice Connected Video.
The company has managed to capture a sizeable African market that has enabled accelerated growth by enticing customers with a mix of African Originals and exhilarating local shows.’
“Showmax was the first streaming service in Africa to make mobile downloads possible for offline viewing and the first to launch a mobile-only plan, so we want to keep tailor-making Showmax for African realities.” Said Barry.
How to Set your Preferred Mode
On your Ios Showmax App, go to Settings > App Preferences and set the video quality for both Wi-Fi and cellular.
Alternatively, after you press play, click the Video Quality wheel icon below the video to set the quality that is best for you.
You can enjoy programs on Showmax and Showmax Pro for Ksh.300 and Ksh.1050 respectively. They are both available on mobile-only plans, viewable on a single mobile device.
