Airtel Kenya joins the streaming market with Airtel TV, a free streaming app

Barely a fortnight after dropping merger talks with Telkom, Airtel Kenya has begun making moves with the company’s new target being the local streaming market. The telco has launched a free streaming app dubbed Airtel TV.

Airtel Kenya TV app allows users to stream different kinds of content, including movies, TV Shows, documentaries, music, cartoons, and even Live TV.

“Airtel TV is set to revolutionise the video on demand and Live TV viewing experience via smartphones, offering Airtel customers access to the very best shows, movies and live television engagements for free,” said Prasanta Das Sarma, CEO Airtel Kenya.

The platform is touted to help the company boost its revenue from data. Airtel TV enters a quite developed video on demand industry in the country currently led by the likes of Netflix, and ShowMax.

However, Airtel TV sets itself apart from the competition by offering free streaming, unlike ShowMax and Netflix which must be paid for month after month.

ShowMax starts at Ksh 375 while Netflix costs Ksh 700, both billing in local currency. As long as you have data, you can stream movies and other content available on Airtel TV.

Airtel TV was launched in Uganda earlier this year. Download the Airtel TV app from here on Google Play.
