South Korean tech giant, Samsung, has not only been the biggest smartphone vendor but is also one of the industry-leading companies in the TV market. The company managed to ship 5.3 million QLED TVs last year, and they are planning to increase that number to hit the 8 million mark.
If the company achieves this new target, it will be ahead of its serial competitors like LG and Sony by far. Samsung’s market share in the QLED TV market stands close to 90 percent despite other TV manufacturers like LG, Hisense, Huawei, TCL, and Vizio also offering an alternative.
Last year, TCL and Huawei shipped 500,000 QLED TVs while Vizio and Hisense sold 380,000 and 300,000 units, respectively. Other manufacturers like LG and Sony have placed their bet on OLED TVs for the high-end market.
Samsung QLED TVs were meant for the high-end market and have attracted lots of attention despite their pricing compared to the competition.
But in reality, the TVs are still not selling as fast as the company anticipated. Last year, Samsung QLED TVs sales only accounted for 12.1 percent of the total TV sales.
