TECNO Camon 12 Air Review

The Tecno Cam 12 series has been in the market for a few weeks now. As we have previously mentioned, Tecno launched three variants of the device, the Camon 12, Camon 12 Pro then there’s the Camon 12 Air.

We already did a review of the Tecno Camon 12 which you can read about here and just as we mentioned in the review, although not quite impressive, at Ksh 15,499, the device is a good buy. The specs and basic performance are quite decent, the battery life and camera are also amazing.

That aside. We also got our hands on the Camon 12 Air.

Design & Display

Just like the Camon 12, the overall design of the Camon 12 Air looks sleek and decent. The fingerprint sensor and the triple ai-powered cameras are at the back. Next to the cameras is where we also have a quad-LED flash

The volume and power buttons are on the right while the left side houses the sim tray for two sim cards and microSD card.

Camon 12 Air Display

The display is 6.55 inches IPS and can provide a resolution of 720*1520 pixels. It also features a punch-hole selfie camera and provides some decent viewing angles. The Dot-in display provides a full-screen experience and looks quite attractive.

The phone also feels very stable and light.

At the bottom, there is a charging port, an audio jack and the speakers whose audio quality is quite impressive.

Performance, Battery Life, Security and other features

We’re getting 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage on the Camon 12 Air which should be enough to store all your files…. Or maybe TECNO should have considered adding the storage just a little bit. The device runs on Android 9 Pie which TECNO’s HiOS version 5.5.2. There’s a MediaTek Helio P22 processor and powerful 4000mAh battery that should be able to push you through to the next day.

With the mid-range processor, the Camon 12 Air does quite a good job. The phone can handle basic tasks like browsing, video streaming, social media without much struggle.

We are still getting the usual preinstalled bloatware which includes third-party and in-house apps and of course the annoying notification and ads. Well, as we said in our Camon 12 review, TECNO really needs to do something about this.

TECNO also added some security features on Camon 12 Air. These include a Face unlock, a fingerprint sensor (rear-mounted) which we mentioned earlier and the typical phone lock.

Cameras

The Camera is still the key selling points for this device, its a Camon remember.  It comes with a triple rear camera – 12MP+5MP+2MP with LED flash. The image quality produced are quite good. The camera features some additional features as like Panorama, HDR, Face detection and geo-tagging among others.

The selfie camera is 8MP and takes some good selfies as well.

Check some sample shots below. More photos are available on our TechTrendsKE Instagram page.

Do we like the TECNO Camon 12 Air?

The phone costs Ksh.13,500 and at that price is offers some decent performance so I would easily recommend it. And just like the Camon 12, the Camon 12 Air specs and basic performance are quite decent, the battery life and camera are also amazing. The overall design is also quite good. I loved the display dot notch.

Other than the software, everything else works just perfectly.  You can get one at TECNO Authorized retailers across the country.
