Infinix S2 Pro Review: Wefie, Selfie and all the things you love about smartphone photography

I have been using the Infinix S2 Pro for a while now and it’s probably one of the best devices I have interacted with this year. The device was launched under the tagline ‘’Selfie+Wefie, officially introducing the Infinix S2 Pro as the world’s first wefie smartphone thanks to its two front cameras which come with advanced features.

The Infinix S2 is the first device of 2017 from Infinix Mobile. We won’t go much into explaining why the company decided to use this name and drop the ‘’HOT’’ as we have mentioned so much about this in our previous articles about the device. But one this for sure, Infinix outdid themselves on this one.

Design and Display

I loved the Infinix S2 Pro design, it’s actually one of the most important things I look out for in a phone. The Infinix S2 Pro, feels really good in the hand especially with the curved edges and rounded corners that go well with 2.5D curved glass on the  5.2-inch display. Although the design in nearly identical to the recently released Infinix ZERO 4, I still love what Infinix did with the S2 Pro.

The device is slim and lightweight measuring just 147.3 x 71.5 x 8.2 mm and weighing only 147 grams.

The Infinix S2 Pro has two front cameras at the front on the top. The earpiece and front camera flash light is also located at the top side. The function keys are at the lower side with a shiny silver bezel covering the whole screen the bottom.

Camera and fingerprint scanner

The camera is basically the selling point for the Infinix S2 Pro. Why? Because Infinix has made some massive improvements to it. First, the device comes with a 13MP Autofocus rear camera with dual-tone flash. Below it is also where we have the fingerprint scanner. The success rate of the scanner at reading biometrics is not that bad either. I did not experience any inaccuracies while testing it

Infinix has also introduced 2 front cameras for 135-degree wide-angle shots and this brings an all new selfie experience with the Infinix S2 Pro. The front camera features a 13 MP and an 8 MP camera which can record videos in HD. With the two cameras,  you might just have to forget about using a selfie stick while taking selfies for now.

The two Infinix S2 Pro cameras provide brilliant results. From the images below, you can tell that how good the camera is. The noise is very less and the dynamic range is pretty good too.  I will let you be the judge, but if you own this device already then you will agree with me that Infinix really did a good job with the camera.

Main Camera Test

I tried testing the Infinix S2 Pro camera everywhere I went around Nairobi, from when I was stuck in traffic to just taking random shots in the estate and also when attending some events in town. Below is what I captured: You can follow our Instagram page @techtrendske to check out more photos.

Software and Performance

The Infinix S2 Pro sports a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM which does a really good job and 32GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via MicroSD.  The device is shipped with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow but two weeks after the launch, Infinix Mobile released an update to Android 7.0 Nougat. This means Infinix S2 Pro users can now enjoy Android 7.0 Nougat features like faster speeds and more efficient notification displays.

I also find the XOS on the Infinix S2 Pro quite interesting, again better than the HiOS.  XOS whole family is also installed on the ZERO 4 and this includes XAccount, XCloud, XClub, XHide, XManager, XPower, XShare and XTheme, which has a collection of different wallpapers and themes. The XOS’s Multi-account feature is also one interesting thing on the Infinix S2 Pro. The feature lets users add multiple social media accounts on the same device without having to log out the other. For example, I was able to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device and everything was running so smoothly.

Thanks to the MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor, you can smoothly run apps and switch between apps without any hurdles or the apps refreshing.

Battery

The Infinix S2 Pro is powered by a 3000mAh battery with support for Quick Charging. Well, if you are a kind of heavy user, you might opt for this one, not too heavy though. This capacity should be able to last you for a reasonable amount of time considering it is only pushing 720p graphics on the 5.2-inch display.

Specs Overview

  • 5.2 Inch HD IPS 1280 x 720 resolution w/ 2.5D curved glass and Dragontrail Glass protection at 282 ppi
  • 64Bit MT6753 1.3 GHz 64 Bit octa-core CPU
  • Mali T720 GPU
  • 3 GB +  32 GB
  • Daal-Hybrid SIM
  • MicroSD Support up to 128G
  • 13 MP F/2.2 S5K3L8, AF and dual tone LED flash
  • 13 MP f/2.2 SK3L8, 8 MP OV8856, AF and single LED flash
  • 3,000 mAh non-removable, quick charging
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow w/ XOS (Android 7.0 Nougat update available)
  • Fingerprint
  • Colors: rose gold, gold, black, blue

Conclusion

Any smartphone photography enthusiast should consider including the Infinix S2 Pro in their bucket list. The smartphone is a real contender in the camera space, competing with the likes as the TECNO Camon CX. The 3GB of RAM does a really good job and 32GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via MicroSD gives you enough space to store all your files.

Well, the Infinix S2 Pro is indeed a device you need to check it. It is only available for Ksh. 15,700.
