Google is working on yet another podcast app

It’s barely two months since Google launched Podcast, its dedicated Android app for podcasts. Emmanuel Chenze wrote some really interesting things about it on Android Kenya a while back.

And now it looks like we might just be seeing yet another podcast app coming from the company. According to a report published on The Verge, the search giant is experimenting the new app and it is calling it Shortwave.

The app is reportedly being developed at Google’s Area 120 incubator which helps the company’s employees’ ideas transformed into full-blown ideas.

The new app was revealed by a trademark filing which describes the app as “allow[ing] users to search, access, and play digital audio files, and to share links to audio files.”

A Google representative who spoke to The Verge said the focus of the was purely on spoken word content adding that the idea behind the app is to “help users discover and consume spoken-word audio in new ways.”

“Like other projects within Area 120, it’s a very early experiment so there aren’t many details to share right now.” the Google representative told The Verge.

Well, will be really interesting to see what Google comes up with considering the great features its recent podcast comes with.
