Samsung Secures Top Spot In The Middle East And African Market, Thanks To Its Galaxy A Series Phones
Samsung Electronics has been ranked as the number one smartphone vendor in the Middle East and African market in Q3 2019. This is according to Market Pulse, a report from CounterPoint Research.
According to the report, the South Korean tech company claimed a 29% share of the market in Q3 2019. The company’s success has been cited to strong sales of the revamped Galaxy A Series. This comes with no surprise since Samsung Galaxy A10 and A20 emerged as one of the two hot-selling Android phones in the same quarter, according to a recent report.
Counterpoint Research said the mobile phone market in both the Middle East and Africa saw a 1 percent uptick in comparison to a similar period in 2018. On the other hand, the smartphone market grew by 2 percent.
The Feature phone market did not see any substantial growth, however. The transition from feature phones to smartphones has also been slow in these markets. The research firm says this has been due to high data costs, digital literacy, device costs, plus economic crises and regulations in key markets like Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa.
The report also notes that the Chinese manufacturers Tecno and Huawei ranked second and third, respectively.
Other smartphone makers like Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi are still trying to enter the market and have yet to gain a substantial share.
