Huawei Cloud has been named the top ”Carrier Hybrid Cloud Leader” in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a new white paper released by industry analyst firm GlobalData at the AfricaCom event today.
The report, titled “Unleashing the Potential of Carrier-Grade Hybrid Cloud in Sub-Saharan Africa 2025,” assessed vendors based on comprehensive research that included 13 Sub-Saharan countries and interviews with 25 leading telecom operators. It cites Huawei Cloud’s leadership in technological innovation and strong market performance for its number one ranking.

In its competitive landscape assessment, GlobalData positioned Microsoft as the second-ranked vendor, also recognized as a “Leader.” They were followed by AWS and Google, both categorized as “Dominant” players, while VMware and Oracle were listed as “Challengers.”

The research evaluated vendors on two primary fronts: Market Performance and Technology Leadership.
In Market Performance, Huawei Cloud achieved the highest rating. GlobalData noted its “stronger market push” and extensive solution offerings, particularly highlighting its performance across three key metrics: Market Presence, Market Differentiation, and Telco Expertise.

On the Technology Leadership front, Huawei Cloud reportedly secured the top aggregate score across seven categories. The report specifically highlighted Huawei’s outperformance in Strategic Partnership, Platform and Control, Professional Services, and Big Data & Warehouse, demonstrating what the paper called a “coherent and comprehensive capability.”
The GlobalData report emphasizes that hybrid cloud is becoming a cornerstone for innovation as Africa’s telecom industry undergoes rapid digital transformation. The growth in mobile data, expanding fiber networks, and the rise of AI and fintech services are driving demand. According to the paper, carrier-grade hybrid cloud solutions are essential for operators to deliver the secure and scalable services needed for the continent’s next wave of digital growth.
