[Video Interview] Deloitte’s Aasif Karachi on upskilling and their partnership with AWS

At last month’s AWS Summit in Johannesburg, AWS reiterated its commitment to job creation in Africa by focusing on skills development to cultivate the next generation of tech talent.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, AWS said it has already trained over 300,000 individuals through partnerships with organizations like Deloitte.

TechTrends Media spoke with Aasif Karachi, Partner and Director of Strategic Alliances at Deloitte, about their collaboration with AWS and plans for the region.

‘’I think what is interesting to see is AWS’s intent and their willingness to invest in Africa’’ Aasif says.

‘’AWS has not only made investments in South Africa but also has a local zone in West Africa and East Africa. From a Deloitte perspective we’ve been operating in Africa for many years and so we saw the opportunity to partner together with AWS to make an impact not only from a skills perspective but also to support organizations and leapfrog the African continent into the future’’

At the summit, AWS also reinforced its commitment to expand its cloud and AI services in Africa.

The tech giant revealed it has already invested billions of shillings in the region with a commitment to invest a further $1.7 billion by the end of 2029 in building infrastructure to meet the demands of its customers.
