Facebook Avatars Officially Launched in Kenya

Social media giant, Facebook, has launched Avatars in Kenya and the wider Sub-saharan Africa region. Avatars, according to Facebook, is here to ā€œgive people new ways to express themselves online.ā€

Hereā€™s a short description of Avatars: ā€œAvatars are digital personas that enable people to engage across Facebook and Messenger in a more personal and dynamic way.ā€

ā€œYou can use your personalised avatar to share a range of emotions and expressions via a digital persona that is unique to you.ā€

You will be able to personally customize your Avatars to suit your hairstyles, complexions, outfits, COVID-19 support stickers, and more.

Avatars can be created from the Facebook or Messenger comment composer by first tapping on the ā€œsmileyā€ button, then heading over to the sticker tab, and selecting ā€œCreate Your Avatar.ā€

Once youā€™ve customized your avatar, it can now be used as a concise way to express different emotions and expressions across Facebook.

ā€œWeā€™re excited to give people more options to convey their identity on Facebook, allowing them to share in a more personal, light-hearted way,ā€ says Nunu Ntshingila, Regional Director, Facebook Africa.

Avatars on Facebook will be used across different sections of the platform, including the comments, Stories, and Messenger ā€“ for now. Soon, you will also be able to use Avatars on text posts with backgrounds too.

Moreover, you can set your avatar as your Facebook profile picture or Facebook Gaming display photo.
