Infinix S5 Camera Review

When Infinix Mobile’s local office sent us a review unit of the Infinix S5, one of the features we were really looking forward to testing was the cameras. Infinix said so many nice things about the phone’s camera whey they officially launched the phone into the market.

‘’The S5 takes mobile photography to an entirely new level with a Quad-core camera setup of 13MP+5MP+2MP+QVGA- AI lens. This camera provides consumers with a wider perspective in both scenery and the macro world capturing enabling them to have amazing photos on any occasion. ‘’ the company said in a statement.

Remember when we reviewed the Infinix S4? (You can read the full review here), the key highlight was the camera. The Infinix S4 came with a triple 13-megapixels, 8-megapixels and 2-megapixels camera. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is 32-megapixels packed with the latest AI imaging techniques. Things are however different on the Infinix S5.

We have already done the overall review of the device which you can read here and as we mentioned, the device offers everything you would ask for a device in that price segment including the cameras which we will be highlighting in this article.

The Infinix S4 had 3 camera sensors, the new Infinix S5 now features 4 sensors.

At the back, the Infinix S5 features a primary 16-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF, then there’s a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, which you can also use to take some pretty good ultra-close-up photos. Next, there’s a 2-megapixel depth sensor you can use in portrait mode. The fourth camera, according to Infinix is a low-light sensor, nothing much is being said about the resolution.

Camera modes include an AI, beauty system, AR Stickers and Panorama. There’s also a shortcut to access Google Lens, located next to the shutter button.

Check out some sample images below:

The cameras work just fine, although the ultra-wide output lacks details and shows high noise deterioration. The primary camera is actually good for day-time photography although it struggles a bit in low-light.

I also need to mention that the ultra-wide sensor doubles up as a macro lens for close-up shots (2.5 cm), but the output really did not impress us. To switch to Super Macro mode, just tap a toggle in the viewfinder, it will then switch over to the wide-angle camera.

Selfie camera

The punch hole placed at the left upper side of the display houses a 32MP camera with AI capabilities. Infinix says this in-display camera is designed with a hidden effect at the upper left corner of the screen making it easier to take selfies. In addition, Infinix says the S5 has four exclusive options, Slim face, Enlarge eyes, Color tone adjustment and Smooth skin, with 100 precision adjustments, providing stunning image customizations to make your own beauty style.

Here are some selfies we took with the device:

Right now, the Infinix S5 video mode also supports the wide-angle lens and macro lens video shooting.

Well, while the Infinix S5 produces some decent shots, I feel Infinix should have done better. The main camera, the ultra-wide’s output as we mentioned lacks details and also struggles in low-light. Close-ups, however, looked good with decent sharpness and colours. There is also no dedicated night mode, we have actually never seen one in any Infinix mode. Maybe this is something Infinix should work on for their future smartphones.
