Samsung Galaxy A80 launched with a rotating camera for selfies

Its been an exciting adventure in the smartphone industry as we watch smartphone manufactures work to achieve bezel-less display. Needless to say, we are almost if not near to achieve the goal. With Under-display camera technology a few miles away (if current issues are sorted), I’m sure we are practically making the perfect bezel-less display smartphone.

Samsung early this year skipped the notch by introducing a punch-hole camera design in the latest Galaxy S-Series; S10e, S10, and S10 Plus. However, the company hasn’t stopped there yet.

Samsung Galaxy A80, Samsung’s mid-range flagship has received a new selfie camera design. The underlying mechanism is the camera slides out then rotates. So your primary camera is still the same camera that will be used for snapping a selfie.

The whole mechanism may sound great, but it’s risky in its some ways. What if you want to include a case on your device? Besides with this mechanism, debris can easily collect on your camera slider.

However turning to the specs, the Galaxy A80 packs a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED “New Infinity” display with FHD resolution. As a midrange device, the Galaxy A80 runs on 8GB RAM and packs 128GB of internal storage. The main driver under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730 Octa-Core chip.

About the camera, you get a triple-camera setup that is a 48MP primary camera (f/2.0 aperture), an 8MP Ultra-wide camera plus a 3D depth sensor. A 3700mAh battery will power the device and will primarily depend on a 25W fast charger.

Regarding the availability of this device, it will be available as from this month in some countries. The Galaxy A80 goes for €649 ($736, approx.. Ksh 74,000) which in Kenya is no price of a mid-range level device.
