Xiaomi Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A Smartphones are Coming to Kenya


Xiaomi Kenya is about to introduce two new devices in the country under their Redmi series. The two, Xiaomi Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A, are one of the cheapest models under the company’s Redmi series in 2020.

The series produced one of the best value entry-level phones announced last year and the same seems to their aim with this year’s follow-ups.

Both phones have a 6.53-inch display with a major difference in resolution. Internal storage is at least 32GB but there’s a microSD card slot for expansion if you need some more space. Also, the two have dual SIM slots which can both access 4G connectivity simultaneously. Out of the box is MIUI 10 based on Android 10

Xiaomi Redmi 9A

Xiaomi Redmi 9A has a 6.53-inch HD+ display with a DotDrop notch. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery juiced with the company promising 19hours of battery life when binge-watching movies and TV Shows, and even more with calls and playing music.

The phone has MediaTek’s Helio G25 processor with speed cranking up to 2.0GHz. That processor is aided by 2GB of memory.

Xiaomi Redmi 9A ships with a single 13MP camera on the rear and a 5MP selfie camera. The main 13MP can shoot FHD+ videos and is baked in with capabilities such as HDR, AI support, autofocus, and flash.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G80 processor aided by 3GB or 4GB of RAM. For media storage, there’s 32GB of internal storage and a bigger 64GB variant. The display also measures 6.53-inches diagonally but the resolution has been improved is stepped up a bit to FHD+ (2340 x 1080p). Xiaomi Redmi 9A also has Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 protection on top of the display.

The phone depends on a 5020mAh battery. It supports Quick Charge 3.0 Technology with 18W Fast Charging, but Xiaomi only provides a 10W charging brick out-of-the-box. Xiaomi Redmi 9 uses a USB Type C port.

Moving to the camera department, Xiaomi Redmi 9 has a quad camera setup – 13MP(wide-angle) + 8MP(ultra-wide-angle) + 5MP(macro) + 2MP(depth sensor). The selfie camera is an 8MP lens.

In addition to Face Unlock, you also get a fingerprint sensor on the rear which lacks on its sibling.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 Series Pricing

Xiaomi Redmi 9A comes in three colors; Carbon Grey, Sky Blue, and Ocean Green. Redmi 9 also comes in three but lacks Sky Blue which is replaced by Sunset Purple. The company has not provided details on the pricing but we will update the article once they do.

    Great article but there some issues.
    You have interplaced redmi 9a with redmi 9 and vice versa. Its confusing. For example: you initially said redmi 9a has a single rear camera, then when it comes to redmi 9 you called it redmi 9a: “Moving to the camera department, Xiaomi Redmi 9A has a quad camera setup – 13MP(wide-angle) + 8MP(ultra-wide-angle) + 5MP(macro) + 2MP(depth sensor). The selfie camera is an identical 8MP lens found in the budget Redmi 9A. “
