Safaricom Foundation Launches New Strategy To Bolster Health, Education And Economic Empowerment


Safaricom Foundation has today launched it’s 2018 -2021 strategy that will focus on three pillars, namely; health, education and economic empowerment.

The pillars which are also part of the strategic  development goals of the United Nations with health being pillar no 3, education pillar number 4 and economic empowerment being number 8 on the (SDGs) list.

Founded in 2003 Safaricom foundation has benefited approximately 4.5 million Kenyans directly or indirectly and that being about 10% of the population.

Under health pillar, the Foundation will focus on addressing maternal mortality as well as Non-Communicable Diseases, paying special attention to children with diabetes. 

In education, the Foundation will address literacy and numeracy as well Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Under economic empowerment, the Foundation will focus its efforts on empowering the youth through entrepreneurship opportunities.

“Our mission is to build communities and demonstrably transform lives through impactful investments and partnerships that are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. We made significant achievements in our last strategy and we now have an even stronger desire to deliver greater impact over the next three years,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman – Safaricom Foundation.

On his part chairman of Safaricom board of directors, Mr Nicholas Nganga said We then made a decision to go beyond chasing profits to investing in the people who were responsible for these profits, from members of staff to the communities we operate in.’’

The Foundation also announced that it will also continue to provide immediate financial support to relief agencies and local organizations that are first responders to emergencies and disaster.
