Samsung wants the Galaxy A27 5G to feel like more than an affordable 5G phone. The company has pushed what it calls Awesome Intelligence further down the Galaxy A lineup, bringing several AI-powered tools that were once easier to associate with flagship phones.
That creates an obvious question for Kenyan buyers. How much of the Galaxy A57 experience actually reaches the Galaxy A27, and where does Samsung still draw the line?
After comparing the Galaxy A27 alongside the A37 and A57 and reviewing Samsung’s latest One UI 8.5 rollout, the answer is clearer than the marketing suggests. The A27 inherits many of the everyday AI features people are most likely to use, but Samsung keeps its more advanced generative editing and productivity tools for the higher-end models.
The Galaxy A27 gets more AI than previous budget Samsung phones
The biggest shift is not that the A27 suddenly becomes a flagship. It doesn’t.
Instead, Samsung has changed what buyers can reasonably expect around the KSh30,000 mark. The phone ships with One UI 8.5 on Android 16 and joins the A37 and A57 in receiving six generations of Android and One UI upgrades, giving it one of the longest software support commitments in its price category.
That longer support window matters because many of these AI tools are tied to Samsung’s software platform rather than the camera hardware alone.
Circle to Search makes the cut
If there’s one AI feature that genuinely changes how people use a phone, it’s Circle to Search.
The Galaxy A27 includes Google’s visual search tool, allowing users to circle text, products, landmarks or images without leaving the app they’re already using. Shopping, translating foreign text or identifying locations becomes much quicker because the search happens directly from the screen.
The same feature appears on the Galaxy A37 and A57, so this is one of the clearest examples of Samsung bringing a flagship-style experience to a cheaper phone.
AI Select quietly becomes one of the most useful additions
AI Select receives less attention than Circle to Search, but it’s arguably one of the most practical tools in One UI 8.5.
Instead of simply copying text or taking screenshots, it recognises what’s on screen and suggests actions based on the content. That can mean extracting text, saving part of an image or quickly interacting with information without switching between multiple apps.
It’s another feature shared across the newer Galaxy A lineup rather than being reserved for the A57.
Object Eraser comes to the Galaxy A27
Photo editing is another area where Samsung has lowered the entry point.
The Galaxy A27 includes Object Eraser, allowing users to remove unwanted people or objects from photos directly inside the Gallery app.
It isn’t as powerful as Samsung’s more advanced generative editing tools found higher in the lineup, but for everyday clean-ups, it’s one of the more noticeable AI additions on the phone.
Google Gemini is built into the experience
The Galaxy A27 also benefits from Samsung’s growing partnership with Google.
Gemini is integrated into One UI 8.5, giving users access to conversational assistance, writing help, planning tasks and everyday queries without needing Samsung’s most expensive hardware.
For many buyers, this is more meaningful than headline-grabbing AI demos because it’s something they’ll interact with regularly.
Read Aloud adds another practical AI tool
One of the quieter additions is Read Aloud.
Instead of reading long articles manually, users can have supported content spoken aloud while they’re commuting, working or multitasking.
It’s not the flashiest AI feature Samsung offers, but it’s another example of everyday functionality reaching the A27 instead of remaining exclusive to premium phones.
Where Samsung still holds back
This is where the Galaxy A57 begins creating separation.
While all three phones share One UI 8.5, Samsung deliberately limits some of its more advanced AI experiences on the A27.

Samsung DeX: While not strictly an AI feature, desktop mode remains exclusive to higher-tier devices, reinforcing the gap between the A27 and Samsung’s more premium phones.
These omissions aren’t accidental. Samsung appears to be using AI as both a feature expansion strategy and a product differentiation strategy at the same time.
How the AI experience compares across the lineup
The pattern is fairly straightforward.
The Galaxy A27 delivers the core everyday AI experience, including Circle to Search, AI Select, Object Eraser, Google Gemini and Read Aloud, but misses premium features such as Now Brief, Now Nudge and natural-language photo editing.
The Galaxy A37 offers almost the same AI experience as the A27, with the same core tools but stronger hardware and a more refined overall package.
The Galaxy A57 goes further by adding Samsung’s premium AI experiences, including Now Brief, Now Nudge and natural-language photo editing, alongside the shared One UI 8.5 features available across the lineup.
Price and availability in Kenya
The Galaxy A27 5G is available through Samsung Experience Stores, the Samsung Brand Store and authorised retailers such as PhonePlace Kenya in Black, Blue, Light Green and Light Pink.
Current pricing already varies across sellers. On Samsung’s Brand Store, the 6GB/128GB model is listed at KSh39,500, while the 8GB/256GB version is priced at KSh44,900, based on the screenshots shared in this campaign.
At PhonePlace Kenya, the 6GB/128GB Galaxy A27 starts from around KSh31,000, a figure highlighted in our earlier comparison of Samsung’s Galaxy A57, A37, A27 and A17.
That gap makes the Galaxy A27 one of those phones where checking authorised retailers before buying can make a meaningful difference, particularly if you’re weighing it against the Galaxy A37.
Is the Galaxy A27’s AI experience enough?
That depends on what you’re expecting.
If you’re looking for every Galaxy AI headline feature from Samsung’s premium phones, the A27 still leaves some tools on the table. But if your priorities are practical features such as faster searching, smarter photo clean-ups, Gemini integration and longer software support, Samsung has brought considerably more everyday intelligence into the Galaxy A lineup than previous generations managed.
