Over 400 ICT Graduates Complete Huawei-Supported Digital Training under Presidential Program

More than 400 young ICT professionals have graduated from a two-week technical training under the Presidential Digital Talent Programme (PDTP) Cohort IX, held at the University of Nairobi’s Chandaria Auditorium.

The program, implemented by the ICT Authority in partnership with Huawei Technologies Kenya, offered specialised certification in Networking, Cloud Computing, and Artificial Intelligence through the Huawei Career Certification framework. These globally recognised certifications equip graduates with practical, job-ready skills aligned with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.

The graduation ceremony was officiated by Hon. Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary, State Department for ICT and Digital Economy. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing a skilled digital workforce, stating:

“We aim to ensure that every graduate in this program is not only employable but empowered to become a creator of digital solutions for Kenya.”

PS Tanui highlighted the importance of training in critical areas such as networking, cybersecurity, and AI, calling them essential to the government’s vision for delivering efficient, tech-driven public services.

Also present were Ms. Zilpher Owiti, Acting CEO of the ICT Authority, and Mr. Michael Kamau, Huawei ICT Academy Manager for Kenya. Ms. Owiti emphasised PDTP’s role in modernising government operations through skilled digital talent.

“PDTP is building a workforce capable of supporting national projects such as service digitisation, cloud deployment, and cybersecurity management,” she noted.

Mr. Kamau reiterated Huawei’s long-standing commitment to Kenya’s digital journey, encouraging graduates to pursue advanced certifications and continue building their capacity.

“These certifications are a strong foundation. Your skills are valuable not only for your careers but for driving Kenya’s digital future,” he said.

The PDTP interns, already placed in various ministries and government agencies, will now apply their new expertise to support ongoing public sector digitisation initiatives.

Since its launch, PDTP has trained over 3,300 graduates, with more than 2,500 now working in both public and private sectors—demonstrating the program’s lasting impact on Kenya’s tech ecosystem.

Ms. Owiti concluded the event with a rallying call:

“This is just the beginning. We expect you to emerge as solution creators, job creators, and leaders in Kenya’s digital economy.”

The Ministry of ICT, ICT Authority, and Huawei Kenya reaffirmed their continued partnership in building the country’s ICT talent pipeline and advancing Kenya’s digital transformation.
