Samsung goes big on mobile AI with the new Galaxy S24 series


Samsung has officially unveiled its latest Galaxy S24 series comprising the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24, unleashing new mobile experiences thanks to Galaxy AI.

Samsung says the Galaxy S series leads the way into a new era that will forever change how mobile devices empower users. It adds that AI amplifies nearly every experience on the Galaxy S24 series, from enabling barrier-free communication with intelligent text and call translations, to maximising creative freedom with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine, to setting a new standard for search that will change how Galaxy users discover the world around them. 

Speaking after the global launch, the Head of Mobile Experience at Samsung Electronics East Africa, Anthony Hutia said the Galaxy S24 series will ignite the next decade of mobile innovation. “Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.”

Pricing for the Galaxy S24 series in Kenya starts at Ksh174,999 for the Galaxy S24 8+256GB , the Galaxy S24+ 12+256GB variant will go for Ksh189,999 and the 12+512GB variant for Ksh234,999; the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra 12+256GB variant will go for Ksh274,999 and the 12+512GB variant will go for Ksh276,999.

Customers who pre-order any of the Galaxy S24 devices will stand to gain from brands like Kenya Airways, Absa Kenya, Safaricom and JTL Faiba Mobile. From Kenya Airways, through their Asante Rewards program, Galaxy S24 series customers will get rewarded free access to Kenya Airways lounges, one free preferred seating and extra legroom, plus a free extra bag and 75% bonus miles for every flight.

Safaricom will offer free 45GB data for pre-orders made from their shops, while JTL Faiba Mobile will offer free 65GB data & free 50 minutes to other networks. Absa Bank credit card holders on the other hand will be able to purchase the Galaxy S24 series with repayments from as low as Ksh13,000 monthly.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series features

The series is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 processors, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. They run on Android 14-based One UI 6.1 and Samsung says they will receive seven Android OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. 

They sport up to 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens with variable refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.

All the Galaxy S24 series models are equipped with a 12-megapixel selfie camera on the front and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. In addition to these cameras, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are equipped with a 50-megapixel wide camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, while the Ultra has a 200-megapixel wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

The Galaxy S24+ has a 4,900mAh battery while the Galaxy S24 Ultra — both can be charged with a 45W charger and USB Type-C cable that you will have to buy separately.  The base Galaxy S24 has a 4,000mAh battery that can be charged at 25W.

With the Galaxy S24 series enters the era of Galaxy AI, which introduces meaningful intelligence aimed at enhancing every part of life, with features such as Live Translate, Circle to Search, Chat Assist, Note Assist and Galaxy AI editing tools.
