You Can Now Pay for Electricity Bills Using Safaricom’s Bonga Points

Safaricom customers can now pay for their power bills using the company’s Bonga points.

“We have entered into a partnership with Safaricom through which our customers will be able to pay for power through Bonga Points,” said Kenya Power managing director, Bernard Ngugi to Business Daily.

The drive seems to be part of Safaricom’s mission to help Kenyans navigate through the tough economic times driven by Covid-19.

Aside from the ability to pay for power bills using Bonga points, KPLC says they also plan to educate customers on efficient power use.

“In addition, we plan to amplify campaigns to educate our customers on efficient power use in order to manage their bills during these tough economic times,” he added.

The telco earlier this year at the onset of the pandemic in the country launched a Bonga For Good initiative.

The initiative gave many Kenyans a way to use their Bonga points to purchase essential goods and services and also donate to the needy. In addition to the added cash, the telco also provided a better-than-normal conversion rate.

The program ran for two months straight, after a 30-day extension announced in May. Over 1 billion Bonga points were redeemed throughout the period. The initiative also saw over 600,000 customers donate points worth over KES 330 million.
