Its a Wrap! Nokia 1 Last of HMD Global Device Receives Pie Update

Nokia 1 the entry level HMD device has received Android 9.0 Pie update in Kenya. According to Nokia starting today, Nokia 1 will be served a share of Pie. With the latest update, the Nokia smartphone ecosystem as a whole now runs on Pie.

“With Nokia 1 getting its very own slice of Pie, we now have a full portfolio of Nokia Phones on Android 9.0 Pie, starting at just sub $80(Ksh 8,000).” Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global

Due to the entry-level specs in Nokia 1; the device update will still be a lite version of Pie, unlike in other Nokia devices. The Android 9.0 Pie edition brings along a new array of lite Google apps, including YouTube Go, Google Maps Go, Google Go (Google’s web search app) and a lite version of Google Assistant. The Lite version of new apps will ensure the smooth running of the device even with the latest update.

It is worth noting that you will need a WIFI connection due to the size of the firmware version, but still, you can opt to use mobile data keeping in mind data charges will apply.

To check if the update is available head over to your Settings app –> System then System Update and tap on Check for updates.
