National Bank of Kenya to Facilitate Financing for Kodris Africa Coding Program

The National Bank of Kenya (NBK) has partnered with Kodris Africa to provide a financing product for individuals and corporates who want to take coding lessons. This comes days after the government officially launched the Coding for Schools syllabus developed by Kodris Africa.

The partnership between Kodris and NBK allows customers to make payments for the program from the bank’s 85 branches across the country.

NBK Managing Director Peter Kioko said, “National Bank, as part of the KCB Group, has a relationship with a network of over 50,000 schools in the country and we will therefore be able to tap into this network in our collaboration with Kodris Africa.”

Coding is the act of creating commands for computers to understand and interpret, making it easier to interact with human beings.

Mr. Kioko added that coding is the language of technology “and this is where the world is going. Everything is being driven by technology. I am encouraged to see a programme that is focused on moulding young students at a tender age, in readiness for the real world.”

Kodris Africa CEO Mugumo Munene said that this partnership is meant to make payments easier for schools and parents “who are ready to start on this novel and important journey”

Through this partnership, corporate and individual clients can create a monthly, quarterly or annual payment plan for the license.

“We are tailoring the payment solutions to meet the reality on the ground, and the reality is that parents want a provision for staggered payment plans,” Munene said.

The Coding for Schools syllabus was formally launched earlier this month by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru who reiterated the ministry’s commitment to supporting it.

“The launch of coding for schools could not have come at a better time and my ministry commits to supporting this initiative,” Mucheru said.

Kenya is the first African country to launch a coding curriculum for primary and secondary schools, opening a new chapter for the continent.
