Huawei Partners with Kenya’s ICT Authority to Offer Digital Training

Chinese technology giant Huawei has partnered with Kenya’s ICT Authority to provide digital training to students. The five-week virtual program will train 377 students under the Presidential Digital Talent Program (PDTP), aiming to bridge the country’s digital skills gap.

The program commenced on Monday, 22nd (yesterday) and will be providing the students with networking, cloud and artificial intelligence skills.

Additionally, training on digital literacy and the Internet of Things is also included, which have been part of the Huawei Digitruck program that has already trained over 1500 youths across the county.

Certified Huawei trainers will teach the cohort, and students will be acquainted with access to different training materials, including Massive Open Online Courses and e-Labs.

“Huawei will continue to support local ICT talent development initiatives. Investing in Kenya’s digital skills training is not only part of our corporate social responsibility but is also our duty as an organization to work together with the government and other stakeholders to address the digital skills gap,” Fiona Pan, Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO for Public Affairs said in a statement.

Of the 377 trainees, 246 will be taught networking, and the remaining 131 will take the cloud and artificial intelligence courses.

To date, Huawei has trained and certified over 1000 trainees under PDTP. The company began supporting PDTP in 2015 through mentorship, training, provision of private-sector internships, etc.
