More than 120 young people from Kisii County have graduated after completing a four-week digital skills program delivered through the Huawei DigiTruck, a mobile, solar-powered digital classroom designed to reach underserved communities.
The trainees gained hands-on knowledge in basic computer use, internet access, digital marketing, online safety, and entrepreneurship. With this graduation, the DigiTruck has now empowered over 6,200 youth across 39 counties, enabling them to participate meaningfully in Kenya’s fast-evolving digital economy.
The ceremony at Bogesaka Primary Grounds, Nyamache Division, was presided over by Mr. Stephen Isaboke, EBS, Principal Secretary, State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, alongside Mr. Adam Lane, Director for Policy and Partnerships at Huawei Kenya.
Underscoring the importance of digital literacy, PS Isaboke said: “Through the use of our phones and laptops, we are able to not only access information on the happenings of the world through social media platforms and news channels, but also access government services and business opportunities. From health and education to economic opportunities, the internet has become a bridge to many essential services. It is therefore important for each and every one of us to possess the necessary digital tools and skills that will enable us to thrive in this fast-changing world.”
He further applauded Huawei and its partners for ensuring that even rural and remote areas are not left behind in Kenya’s digital revolution. “I would like to celebrate the work that Huawei Technologies is doing in partnership with Computers for Schools Kenya through the DigiTruck program. It is through this program that over 6,200 individuals have been equipped with the necessary digital skills to better their lives across the country. Today we add an additional 120 individuals to this number. The DigiTruck ensures that rural and marginalized communities are not left behind but are actively participating in shaping the future.”
Representing Huawei Kenya, Mr. Adam Lane emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to upskilling communities:“Through the DigiTruck, we are investing in people and communities. By equipping citizens with digital skills, we are not only fostering inclusion but also preparing the workforce needed for Kenya’s future economy.”
Graduates also shared inspiring testimonials of how the training has opened new opportunities. One said:“I never thought I would get the chance to learn computer skills in my village. The DigiTruck brought training right to our doorstep. I can now type documents, use email, and even apply for online jobs. This has given me hope that I can earn a living without having to leave my community.”
The DigiTruck is part of Huawei’s Tech4All global initiative and is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, the Ministry of Education, the ICT Authority, Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK), and other partners. It contributes directly to the Digital Superhighway initiative and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) by empowering grassroots communities with digital skills and creating pathways for jobs and entrepreneurship.
